Publisher's Summary

Imagine being alongside one of the greatest bands in the history of rock, touring the globe, and being there as they perform at some of the best and biggest music venues in the world. Peter Hince didn't have to imagine. For more than a decade, he lived a life that other people can only dream of as he worked with Queen as the head of their road crew.

In this intimate and affectionate book, Peter recalls the highlights of his years with the band. He was with Freddie when he composed "Crazy Little Thing Called Love"; he was responsible for making sure that Freddie's stage performances went without a hitch. He was often there to witness his famed tantrums and was also party to the sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll that are invariably part of life on the road with a band. This inside look at Queen and Freddie Mercury shows the real-life ups and downs of one of the most famed bands of all time and is a must-listen for any music fan.

Loved it!

After reading some of the reviews I got worried that there wouldn’t be enough Queen in this book. I was pleasantly surprised when I found that the information shared in this story is not only full of Queen anecdotes that we might have heard in the past but also plenty of new stories and details we have never heard.
This isn’t a Queen documentary. This is a window into the world of a rock n roll band’s crew. Being a musician myself (at one point in my life) I found it fascinating! I felt like I was there. Like I was part of the crew. Another roadie walking backstage. I could almost smell the cigarette smoke and dirty clothes. I highly enjoyed this book and I will revisit it again soon.

Still missing Freddie

I loved the parts about Freddie and the band, that is what I was mostly interested in. Some of the shenanigans about being on the road, well not exactly literature.

Queen Unseen by Peter Hince

An absolutely honest portrayal of the rock band, Queen seldom seen or covered by any other book. Roadie “Ratty” Peter Hince’s behind the scenes of the Queen machine is very informative making this book very unique!

Writing rambling but performance perfection

The author self professes at the beginning of the book that it is more a collection of events, not in chronological order. Even though forewarned, it didn’t stop me from drifting off during the recounting of the countless escapades, as the pursuit of the “drugs, sex and rock n roll” never wanes.
During some sections, the unique perspective and reflection on events helps scratch the itch of living vicariously through the eyes of a Queen roadie.
I did enjoy the performance by the narrator, and thought he was one of the more entertaining ones to have come across.

Amazing Story!

I loved listening to this book. I learned so much about the band along with the work crew in detail. It was told so well that I felt at times I was actually there at those concerts. I would recommend this book to any Queen fan.
