The relationship between Freddie Mercury and Jim Hutton evolved over several months in 1984 and 1985. Even when they first slept together, Hutton had no idea who Mercury was, and, when the star told him his name, it meant nothing to him. Hutton worked as a barber at the Savoy Hotel and retained his job and his lodgings in Sutton, Surrey, for two years after moving in with Mercury, and then worked as his gardener. He was never fully assimilated into Mercury's jet-setting lifestyle, nor did he want to be, but, from 1985 until Mercury's death in 1991, he was closer to him than anyone and knew all Mercury's closest friends: the other members of Queen, Elton John, David Bowie, and Phil Collins, to name a few.

Ever present at the countless Sunday lunch gatherings and opulent parties, Hutton has a wealth of anecdotes as well as a deep understanding of Mercury's life. He also nursed Mercury through his terminal illness, often held him throughout the night in his final weeks, and was with him as he died. No one can tell the story of the last few years of Mercury's private life‚ the ecstasies and the agonies‚ more accurately or honestly than Jim Hutton.

I fell in love and learned a lot.

I wasn't following Freddie and Queen back in the day. I recently saw the movie, interviews on YouTube, and have started listening to their music.
The narrator will take you through this journey as though you are inside his head and heart. Such an intimate journey. I fell in love with Freddie and Jim. I laughed and cried. Much can be gained regarding what NOT TO DO, as well as what TO DO in our lives. Reading this book has made me a better person.
I never write reviews, but I'm compelled to write one here because of this book's impact on me.
As I live the rest of my life, I will think of Freddie's grace, dignity and love as he left this world. And I will live my life going forward with all that I've learned from Freddie and Jim.

Mercury and Me........Fantastic Listen

A beautiful love story. I am happy that Freddie and Jim found one another and had those happy years together. It is worth your time to listen and learn the meaning of Until Death Do Us Part.

Touching and lovely tribute to their love story

What an amazing account of the deep love that Jim and Freddie had for each other. I'm not sure I need any other biographies now....I believe that his years with Jim were Freddie's happiest. I'm delighted he found someone to share his life with and put an end to his loneliness. Shame on Mary for treating Freddie's friends so badly! I hope Freddie has a slap waiting for her if ever they reunite. Freddie and Jim, you both have my 💜 rest in peace 🕊️

Good closure for me

Freddy’s lyrics tell such a sad story to me made me sad to think he had a hard time finding love … reading this book filled in the blank spots of his story for me and he loved an lived such a big full life makes me feel a little better knowing he was loved and cared for

Interesting but Wanted more

Really hoped for more than stories about shopping. lots of shopping stories in this book
