Since the age of 21, Paul McCartney has lived one of the ultimate rock 'n' roll lives, played out on the most public of stages. Now Paul's story is told by rock music's foremost biographer, with McCartney's consent and access to family members and close friends who have never spoken on the record before.

Paul McCartney: The Life reveals the complex character behind the façade and sheds new light on his childhood - blighted by his mother's death but redeemed by the father who introduced him to music. This is the first definitive account of Paul's often troubled partnership with John Lennon, his personal trauma after the Beatles' breakup, and his subsequent struggle to get back to the top with Wings - which nearly got him murdered in Africa and brought him nine days in a Tokyo jail.

Listeners will learn about his marriage to Linda, including their much-criticized musical collaboration, and a moving account of her death. Packed with new information and critical insights, Paul McCartney: The Life will be the definitive biography of a musical legend.

Reseñas de la Crítica

"If you’re not a fan of Paul McCartney when you start this book, you will be when you’re done. Narrator Jonathan Keeble recounts McCartney's life story... It would have been criminal to have an American read Philip Norman's tell-all book. Keeble's delightful British accent makes it sound real.... Overall, McCartney comes across as a great musician, caring father, and incredible human being." (AudioFile)

I was REALLY surprised that Paul McCartney cooperated with Philip Norman in the writing of this biography, given Norman’s decided anti-Paul slant in “Shout!” But, I’m glad that Paul reconsidered to assist/cooperate with this book. Lots of interesting stories and players fill the pages.

My only real complaint is with the choice of narrator. The man has a decidedly “posh” accent, more appropriate for someone narrating “The Times“ than a rock n roll bio. And when he at times delves into mimicking a Liverpool accent, well, that is simply awful. Outside of this major distraction in enjoying the book, I’d give it 4 stars mainly because of the subject matter (hey, it’s Paul!).

Really enjoyable but the narrator is a poor choice

I had this gem in my library for some time; 30 hours in length held me back. And in the end, those hours didn’t seem long enough . A Beatles fan for as long as I can remember, I learned so much I had never heard before. A story so well written, and a story so well told. Bravo and thank you.

Simply Amazed

The thing I loved most about this book is how he really didn't pick a side. Philip Norman says that right up front he is a Lennon fan over McCartney. But, it doesn't get in the way of telling the true story. He goes into the good and the bad sides of Paul and really gives the reader a key insight into the life of the "cute" Beatle. I found it really refreshing that he wasn't constantly bashing or praising him. It seemed as though he was just telling the story how it is and letting the reader decide what was just and unjust of Paul's actions.

He goes into full detail of the music, the love, the relationships with the other three Beatles, and even the depressed side of Paul that we hardly see. He proves to everyone that Paul is just a normal man with a unique gift.

The one thing I wish he would have done differently is when he talked about Paul's second wife. He focused so much on that and not the fact that in those years he was writing some amazing albums, where Norman just writes a quick paragraph about each and then moves on. I feel like there were so much sadness and emotion in the songs written at the time that he should have and could have written much more about. Other than that, this book is one of the best biographies I've ever written and truly loved it.

Outstanding Book! Covers every part of his life

I have much more respect for McCartney than I did before. Shows both sides. Highly, highly recommend.

I've read a few books about the Beatles and considered myself fairly knowledgeable. This book adds so much more to the humanity of McCarney while shining a light on almost super human qualities. A real inspiration to struggling musicians.

Wow... from a long time Beatle Fan

I LOVED this book, was so sad it ended. Felt like I spent weeks with Paul and family, but enjoyed every minute of it. I am going thru withdrawal now.

And in the End....

very well researched and performed but lacking in family details sometimes, but on the whole a very worthy edition to the literary world of paul and the beatles.

The book is a thorough and fair summary of the AMAZING and REMARKABLE life of McCartney. The author is a self admitted Lennon fan but even he ends beyond impressed at the life of Paul. The book covers his musical and personal life in vivid detail, and again with a fair viewpoint of both!! Very good listen for sure!!

Thorough and excellent!!
