Prowl, the second book in USA TODAY bestselling author Colleen Coble's Sanctuary series (following Ambush), delivers exactly what her fans want: the ideal blend of suspense that keeps you on the edge of your seat with just the right amount of romance. Perfect for fans of Laura Dave, Allison Brennan, and Dani Pettrey.

When a worker at the Sanctuary is discovered dead in the tiger enclosure, authorities assume the big cat killed her. But when the autopsy shows she was killed by a lethal dose of anesthetic delivered by a tranquilizer gun, suspicion falls on Blake Lawson, co-owner of the Sanctuary. Blake has his hands full trying to clear his name as well as get the Sanctuary finances back in the black. When a soil test turns up traces of rare earth, he's even more puzzled. Is someone trying to run them out of business to get to whatever is under the ground?

Meanwhile, wildlife veterinarian Paradise Alden is determined to find the brother she only recently learned even existed. When the results of the DNA test she ran mysteriously disappear from her portal before she can read them, she realizes someone must not want her to know the truth. A break-in at her new apartment is alarming, but she tries to pass it off as someone trying to scare her away. She refuses to turn tail and run when she is desperate for answers.

For Blake, the only solid ground is his relationship with Paradise, and he longs to propose--but how can they even think about starting a life together with so many forces working against them?

Colleen Coble's Prowl combines gripping suspense with closed-door romance and includes intriguing mysteries from both the past and present, sabotage and danger, second-chance romance, found family, and themes of overcoming pain and how the past doesn't have to define you.

Also in this series: Ambush (book 1, available now) and Conspiracy (book 3, available July 2026).

Enjoyed this whole story line. It was interesting with good twist and turns. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

JWright
Suspenseful throughout! Because I was familiar with the characters, I was able to get involved in the storyline quickly. The author does provide more physical contact with the love scenes, but they remain tastefully descriptive,
I suspected the antagonist about the middle of the story; however, so many different characters are entangled in the “plan” that any of them could have been the guilty “mastermind.”

“Greed”

If I hadn't already spent an Audible credit on this, I might have chucked it over Paradise's treatment of Blake. If I hear the word smothering one more time, I might toss it anyway. I don't think Blake deserves this treatment and I would view her behavior as a red flag. Just curious, these women who ignore signs of danger, are we supposed to admire them, think they're smart or courageous? After everything that happened in book one, then another murder, signs someone has been inside your home, in your personal belongings, crank calls, hacking your phone, accessing your vehicle to plant a rattlesnake, NAH, let's just ignore that because we don't want to live in fear and let's not alert anyone else including family or law enforcement. It's very frustrating and completely unrealistic. She's apparently not interested in having a partner. What kind of person, male or female, ignores multiple murders and attempts to harm and possibly kill them and refuses protection from ex-military, especially one you claim to love. Even when there is a potential explosive device, this woman insists she's the one that HAS to open it. Hogwash. Once he deems it safe, you can take all the time you want to see what's inside. I'm sad I automatically purchased this since I liked book 1 so well but the FMC has made this a frustrating and disappointing read for me. The rest of the story is great but then I get pulled out of it by Paradise's rude and disrespectful tirades. She really steps over a line IMO when she starts lecturing Blake about their future children and whether he will also "smother" them and teach them they always need his protection instead of standing on their own. She compares everyday activities to stalkers, murder and rattlesnakes planted in her car. No, you can't "steer" around every trip, fall, car accident etc. but there is no crime in taking precautions. My answer would be a resounding YES!! I will in fact protect my children when murder and mayhem surround them and teach them to have the WISDOM to not only accept protection but to seek it when danger is right in their face. Being stubborn and not having the intelligence to understand you DO NOT HAVE THE TRAINING OR EXPERTISE to handle a murderer puts not only herself but others in danger. She goes off on him for smothering her anytime he expresses the slightest concern for her safety. I think he has been very respectful, always asking or suggesting rather than making demands. She does not take into account anyone else's concerns and the stress she's putting them through. He isn't even suggesting anything extreme like around the clock protection, hiring a bodyguard, or sending her to a safe house. He's only expressed that maybe she could stay at the preserve with other people around to deter the bad guy. Apparently she'd prefer a guy who doesn't care about her well being and would tell her she's on her own, hope it all works out ok. He has been extremely patient with her tirades. She has absolutely zero wisdom and zero self preservation. If that's not bad enough, she indicates she's putting her future on hold until she solves her parents murder. Maybe she knows her story is fictional and that outcome is possible. In reality she could be wasting her one God given life in pursuit of an impossible goal. Lots of murders are NEVER solved and she will have wasted her life. Why is everything mutually exclusive with her? She can have a life and a family while she continues to pursue information about her parents. She can accept protection in certain instances and have plenty of time to stand on her own when protection is not available, which indeed, in the end she was forced to do, but I noticed the whole time she's wondering when MMC will get there. I guess you need characters like her to make an interesting story becuse she never would have been in the situation at the end if she hadn't insisted on going alone, of course. She learns her lessons in the very last few pages but it's a very frustrating read up until then, for me anyway. Without the frustration of FMC, the remaining characters and story line are definitely 5 star.

Frustrating female lead, 5 star otherwise

I absolutely love her books, I don't think I have come across one that I dislike. I love this new series. I look forward to the third book.

Intriguing
