Publisher's Summary

A man protects those given into his care

Landscape designer Beth King survived an abusive husband and built a new life for herself with the help of Master Nolan, the strongest, most protective man she has ever known. She loves him with all her heart, but the one thing he wants, she can't give him. To her grief, the damage from her abusive first marriage means she can't bear him children.

As Beth and Nolan change their plans and pursue adoption, they're already imagining a baby girl in the nursery. But when two boys from the local domestic violence shelter see their mother taken to the hospital, they call Beth in a panic. Agreeing to care for them temporarily, Beth soon falls in love with the two adorable boys.

Now Master Nolan has a new problem. How can he protect the children when their drug-addicted mother is released - and how the hell can he keep his sweet submissive's heart from being broken when they leave?

Heads-up, my dears: the story is heartwarming...yet heartbreaking, due to children in a domestic violence situation.

Ugh!

If you're looking for a rainy afternoon guilty pleasure romance novel, this is not that book.

I have mixed feelings, because it's good to spend time with the characters from the Shadowlands, but this book is about marriage communication problems, frustration over infertility, and child abuse. Not a book to escape into.

The squeaky little baby-talk voice of the two-year old that's cute in the first two minutes of the book gave me a headache by the end of it. (And I waited a whole day before writing this to make sure I wasn't just knee-jerking.)

Definitely don't read this if you haven't read any of the other books, because you'll likely be lost and won't get anything out of it. It's really only worthwhile if you want to see what's happening with the characters you already care about.

We get to revisit Nolan and Beth as they more forward with their lives together. We see Beth be strong and caring person. We get to see her weather disappointment. We also get to see how Nolan and Beth work together as a couple to readjust their dreams and open their hearts.

What a cute story...Beth and Nolan are so happy

What made the experience of listening to Protecting His Own the most enjoyable?

I loved the family aspect of the story..sure, we know all about the BDSM aspect, but watching Beth and Nolan try to fight for a family made the story come together even more.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I’m crushing on the Dr. Alastair Drago..he was only in the story a few times, but I can’t wait to hear his story. He so proper and sexy with that English accent..I’m sure there’s a lot more to him..and he’s prop ably more dangerous than we think.

Which character – as performed by Noah Michael Levine and Erin deWard – was your favorite?

I can’t pick a fav..I love Michael and Erin and they make all of the characters come to life..going by the previous question, if I had to pick, I’d have to say..Dr. Alastair.

Any additional comments?

I listened to this books months ago, but never completed a review..The boys in the story was absolute dolls..I loved them and their story..getting caught up with the rest of the Shadowlands group is always a great treat.

Crying material

Any additional comments?

I love love love this story and there's not a single thing about it I didn't like.
Nolan and Beth's happy ending is beautiful, hot and sweet as hell. I always longed for knowledge of what happened to this wonderful couple.
The authors way of writing is my undoing, it's the middle of the night and I'm just finished reading. I couldn't leave it alone, I admit that I tried a couple of times but I just kept thinking of the characters and what they were doing next.
I feel like I know the characters and all the Shadowlands family so well that it's like coming home when I read the stories.
This story made me cry like a hormonal crazy women and laugh so I snorted, and all I could think about was; when is the next book coming???????

Another winner

Although I am not interested in the bdsm lifestyle I do enjoy this series. Well this book is suitably hot there is a lot of character development along with a multifaceted story. It was definitely worth the credit

Such a Great Family

I absolutely fell in love with Grant and Connor!Their new family with Beth & Nolan pulled on my heartstrings in the best way! Narrative by Noah Michael Levine and Erin DeWard definitely brought the story to life.

I'm getting soft in my old age as I cried so much in this one! Laughed in between too! Very sweet story line that tugs on the heart strings! Beautiful!
