Publisher's Summary

New York Times best-selling author and renowned pastor Timothy Keller explores the power of prayer.

Christians are taught in their churches and schools that prayer is the most powerful way to experience God. But aside from learning prayers by rote, few receive instruction or guidance in how to make the most of this essential Christian act - how to make prayer genuinely meaningful. In Prayer, renowned pastor Timothy Keller delves into the many facets of this everyday act.

With his trademark insights and energy, Keller offers brilliant and inspirational biblical guidance, as well as specific prayers for certain situations, such as dealing with grief, loss, love, and forgiveness. He discusses ways to make prayers more personal and powerful, and how to establish a practice of prayer that works for each listener.

Dr. Keller's previous books have sold more than one million copies. His Redeemer Presbyterian Church is not only a major presence in his home base of New York, it has also helped to launch more than 250 other churches in 48 cities around the world. His teachings have already helped millions, the majority of whom pray regularly. And with Prayer, he'll show them how to find a deeper connection with God.

New insights

This book really widened my perspectives and understanding about prayer, which has often been a challenging issue for me and my life.
The book is deeply rooted in both the Scriptures and the Christian tradition. With this book Keller has inspired me to see that prayer is more about God and who He IS, rather than my own self-centered needs...

Not crazy about this narrator, but great content!

This narrator has a really inconsistent speech speed, hard to listen to. But the content is one of TK's best books yet!

Well worth your time

An excellent book on all the aspects of prayer. Particularly appreciated the inclusion of many other individuals' perspectives on prayer, both historical and current.

Best comprehensive book on prayer I've ever read

This is easily one of the best books I've ever read. Timothy Keller borrows from such great Christian thinkers as John Calvin, Martin Luther, and J. I. Packer and brings the best of their thoughts and methods on prayer to blend them into a concise, but comprehensive work on the subject. Sean Pratt did the narration justice and the work, as a whole, is very well presented.

There were times in the book when I thought the author was venturing off-topic, but every time, Keller would weave whatever topic he was discussing into the overall work to reveal an essential truth about prayer. I'll probably sound overly poetic, here, but it was like a beautifully woven quilt - a patch about understanding God's love and mercy, here with a patch about the Lord's Prayer, there, and a patch about how the great thinkers on the subject have approached prayer, and you have an intricately-connected work that covers you in the comfort of what you were seeking - the knowledge of how to approach God more effectively.

This is a book that I will refer to often, and will probably buy in the hardcover version. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is as fascinated with the art of prayer as I am. You won't be disappointed.

Great study on Prayer!

Combining the perspectives of Augustine, Luther, and Calvin, tempered by his own experience, Keller greatly demystifies Prayer to something we all can and should do.
