Convinced of foul play, and despite fierce opposition from the army brass and his own superiors, Ford launches a murder investigation.

Years on from his wife’s death, Ford is still struggling with guilt and whether or not to tell his son the truth about what really happened. When his CSI partner confronts him about the tragedy, he knows he has to confess sooner or later. But the living can wait; the dead are calling. With the victim’s regiment due to deploy to Somalia, taking any suspects and evidence with them, Ford has just days to apprehend the killer.

His career on the line and his relationship with his son in the balance, Ford has to work fast if he is going to bring justice to the dead—and closure to the living.

Consistent with Maslen’s writing style .

The quality of the audio seemed a bit off in the beginning but adjusted as the story developed. Enjoyed the book.

WAIT WAIT

I thought he was a goner at the end and was thinking really u wouldn't go out prepared. So Nick or Mick just got away with giving out 👮 information? I need another book to wrap up all of the loose ends.

Heavy on religion, light on mystery

The author spends more time reflecting his antipathy to Christianity than crafting a compelling story and mystery.

The DI Ford guilt plotline is well played out and has become too much of a focus.

Good but not great

This story has a ton of potential. My disappointment is that some of the procedural is weak or a seems to contradict earlier parts of the story.
