About the Creator

When he’s not flustering emus or stymying mambas, Scott McCormick enjoys annoying his children until they tell their mother. He also writes. He writes all kinds of stuff. Some of it is good. He wrote the Mr. Pants series of graphic novels. Those were good. You should totally check them out. So are the books he writes for Audible, including Rivals! Frenemies Who Changed the World, and its sequel, Rivals 2. He’s also excited about his first novel, The Dragon Squisher, which is just as funny and squishy as it sounds. Scott lives on the western edge of the easternmost part of southern North Carolina, right smack in the middle of it all.

About the Performer

Sean Patrick Hopkins has narrated over 250 audiobooks written by Pulitzer & Nobel Prize-winning authors, traversing universes from Star Wars to Halo, and spanning centuries from Shakespeare to Back to the Future. His work has garnered AudioFile Earphones and Parents’ Choice Awards. The firstborn child of a preschool teacher and a Navy nurse, his path to audiobooks has taken him from studying neuroscience & speech pathology, to performing on film, television, video games, and stages across the country. When not in the booth, you can find him raising an amazing daughter alongside his talented wife, fellow narrator Patricia Santomasso.

1st review

This is the first review on this amazing book. I have loved this whole series, from the 1st “Rivals!” book to “Pirates!” The narration is amazing, the writing is creative, and the sound effects “blow” my mind! The only bad thing is that there are not 15 more books!

fun

This was a very humorously performed and informative history lesson.
I believe if this format could be used for educational purposes learning would be a lot more fun 😄

awesome history lesson

this was a really fun and educational piece of literature. the way they portrayed everything made it for really fun story to listen to. However listening to the history you also get to learn a lot about all the different figures piracy history including why they are the way they are. humanizes each of them instead of making them these strange figures from history. It shows you what circumstances came about to turn them into the people that they were but also show the Ingenuity of each of them. it goes to show that no matter what there's always two sides to every story. and also ties me personally to be more interested in researching them even further. Very well done

Disappointing

I’ve really enjoyed most of the other books in this series but this one was pretty disappointing. The facts were interesting but layered in so much sarcasm and made up, anachronistic play acting you weren’t sure what was real and what was them poking fun. It also wasn’t funny, seeming more interested in just deriding everything and everyone rather than finding ways to be witty. Too bad, could have been a really fun topic.

Learning entertainment

While I would t take any of it at face value or pure factual it was entertaining and I am sure based on actual events. Good enough to spark interest for further research for those so inclined.

Very boring

I tried but after 30 minutes I just couldn’t finish these ‘stories’ which live somewhere between a boring history lesson and a degree of fantasy. At least I don’t think I’m supposed to believe the story. Really glad it was free with Amazon prime as it was to dry to finish.

Plundering pirates and more!

After I listened to the rivals first book, I found this book and boy is it good! This is so interesting and the way some parts are presented is so good! I found myself listening to it several times and loving it more and more I listened to it. Scott Mcormick put effort in and does it show!

Unbearable and gross humor

The first volume’s humor insertions weren’t as overwhelming as in this one. I couldn’t get past the first chapter.
