Publisher's summary

Nova Scotia, 1952. Not exactly the place you'd expect to run into pirates. But an old mariner, his boat driven ashore in a gale, brings with him enough stories about buccaneers and their lore to make it seem that he must have had firsthand experience of the pirate life. But how is that possible? Captain Charles Johnson's uncanny knowledge of seamanship's dark side fuels the imagination of the young boy he befriends, setting the boy on his own journey of mysterious adventure.

A great Pirate tale for all ages!

What a wonderful book. I believe it was for children or teens, but read better than most adult literature. This way exceeded my expectations. This is a book that should have a sequel. A++

Decent

It’s a decent book to listen to while you’re doing things around the house. It’s not something I’d want to pay a credit for though.

Loved every second!

Not big with reviews but this one deserved it. Great story, mixing several familiar piratical themes with an excellent mechanism to draw the reader/listener into the real histories therein. Performance was also spot on. Really enjoyed it. More please!

Wished there was more

In my honest opinion this is one of the best books on audible. Immersive, informative, calming.

I really liked it.

Play frequent listener of spy and military stories I was not sure if I would actually like this. I got into the story fairly quickly and it did capture my imagination. It did not end as I anticipated, which I like. It was good for the long miles that I drive for work. I would recommend this story to young and old alike.

One of the good pirate stories.

I would give this a 4-1/2. It was Avery enjoyable story, although it didn’t make me as emotional as some five-star stories Have. I did really enjoy this. I am a real sucker for a good pirate story.

Grrrrr

Story telling at its best. The author and narrator take you upon an epic journey of adventure. Are you ready? I wasn’t.

Great Historical Narrative

I was not acquainted with Capt Charles Johnson nor his work. This was a well thought out way to bring context and history to galant nostalgia of "the pirates," but there are no "the pirates." Well done and easy.
