You are cordially invited to join jet-setting financier/philanthropist Emory Jackman and his very special guests at the world's most exclusive party on Little Pearl Island!

__

Everyone who's anyone wants to be seen at one of Emory Jackman's legendary parties, from royalty to politicians, tech billionaires to Instagram models.

But something sinister is happening on Little Pearl. Journalist Sven Olsen has heard rumors about the Jackmans trafficking young girls, and a secret auction joined by the rich and famous. He's been invited under the pretense of writing a profile about Emory and his mysterious wife, Tess, and will do just about anything to get the scoop.

The crew and staff are unaware, including young porter Gabe Zimmer, who falls for Clarissa Hurst, a stowaway looking for her long-lost twin sister. Security is hunting her, but when the two discover what's in the crates heading to the island, they realize they're in a lot more trouble than they think.

Because it's not just parties, perverts or a prison cell awaiting them on Little Pearl. A creature lurks there, eager for his children to get their first taste of blood, and awaken him from his long slumber.

When they do, the payback will be legendary.

This is the second book from this author that I have read, and I have a hard time taking it serious Perhaps the intention of the author is to make the book a bit of comedy as well as a horror or thriller, but if that is the case, it is not my cup of tea. Vampire stories should either be scary, romantic, or comedy, but not all three. In my opinion, this book is more of a comedy with a slightly scary twist. I like the idea of vampires getting revenge on people who abuse children. Maybe if I read the book instead of listen to the audio, I might have a better appreciation for it. I might check out other books that this specific narrator has done to see if it is his voice that I have issue with or if it is this book specifically. despite these complaints, I read the book in its entirety, but nearly 2/3 of the way through. I had to keep reminding myself to finish it and it was not the first book that I would turn to.

Hard to take serious

The title sounded great!! I've never tried a book from Duncan Ralston before. The story was fun enough, but I was hoping for something a LOT bloodier. Personally, this would not be considered splatterpunk at all. It was far too.... tame, for lack of a better word. The narrator was OK, but I did have to speed up the playback speed because he took SUCH long pauses between each sentence.

Fun, but not what I was looking for
