Publisher's Summary

The only thing more twisted than a cursed witch is her family tree.

For the past 14 years, Edgehill’s resident secret witch, Amber Blackwood, has been haunted by her parents’ deaths. The whole town knows about the tragedy, but the details remain a mystery even to Amber. From her tiny studio apartment above her shop, The Quirky Whisker, Amber can see her partially rebuilt old house out on the edge of town. Although she now has a good life - delighting children with her magically infused toys, concocting healing tinctures for Edgehill’s residents, doting on her cats, Tom and Alley, and sitting on the committee for the town’s annual Here and Meow Festival - she feels stuck in the past.

Amber suspects the fire that killed her parents was set deliberately by a witch from the cursed Penhallow clan, from whom no one has heard even a whisper since the night her parents died. The clan’s sudden disappearance is no coincidence to Amber, but her aunt Gretchen refuses to believe there’s a connection and urges Amber to stop looking for someone to blame. So Amber is shocked when Aunt Gretchen shows up unexpectedly, claiming the Penhallows have resurfaced and that one of them is heading for Edgehill with Amber in his sights.

Aunt Gretchen knows more about the fabled clan than she’s letting on. Amber is determined to find out what her aunt is hiding, and what the Penhallow seeks, before the same treacherous force that took Amber’s parents’ lives claims her own.

This book is all about the Blackwoods. I like that the author told us what happens with Amber and Willows parents in this book. It gets it out of the way early in the series and doesn't leave the readers wondering for so long. As you can see from my earlier sentence this is all about the mystery that surrounds the death of Amber and Willow's parents. We get a lot of answers in this book. I still feel bad for Amber she can't catch a break in the love department. I will be interested to see where this series goes next.

A Pawsitively Captivating Sequel

Pawsitively Cursed is the second book in the Witch of Edgehill Mystery series. It continues the story of Amber Blackwood, a young witch who runs a small toy and tea shop, the Here and Meow, in the cat-inspired town of Edgehill. Haunted by the circumstances surrounding her parent's death 14 years before, Amber has never been satisfied with the answers given by the police or her Aunt, who took Amber and her sister in following their parent's death. Still reeling from the death of her best friend in the previous book, Amber's Aunt Gretchen suddenly shows up with news that all was not as it seemed with her parent's death after all. She reveals that a cursed family of witches, the Penhallows, are after Amber to obtain her mother's magical grimoir of spells in the hopes of obtaining a time travel spell which could reverse their family curse. Romance, false identities, uncovered secrets, murder and mayhem keep this story moving at a fast pace.

This second installment continues to build the characters in this series but there is far less world building of ancillary characters in the town. Amber's backstory is filled in and you learn a lot about the magical side of this world. As with the first installment, this was a totally enjoyable cozy mystery story. Sequels often fail to live up to the expectation of the original book, but Melissa Erin Jackson produced a very worthy follow up novel equal to the first. As with the first novel, there is a small set up in the prologue for the next book in the series. I am eager to see what the future holds for Amber and her friends.

As before, the narrator was wonderful and enjoyable to listen to. she made the Penhallows seem evil just with her voice narration!

Can't get enough of this series! A true delight!

I loved book 1 in this series, but book 2 is even more magical delights. We learn more about Amber's past and her magical abilities, as Amber discovers them herself. The chemistry between the Blackwood women is palpable. The performance is superb. I can't wait for the next book in the series!

Immersive mystery!

The first book in this series is fun, but this one ramps it up a notch. The fun nuance of Charmed meets Gilmore Girls gets a smidge darker and romantic and I was all in. This story breathes and yet packs a very concise punch. The ending left me distraught in the most understandable ways. Can’t wait for #3!

Great new discovery

I enjoyed every minute of this book and how Amber made new discoveries on this journey. I liked the fact that you got to know some of the characters from the first book a bit better as well as some puzzle pieces from her past falling into place. Loved the narration on this book.

Pawsitively bewitching

I really enjoyed book one and wanted to find out what happened next for Amber, so I got book two. So glad I did I really enjoyed it and hope there is more books to come. I really like the characters and think they are a lot of fun, with things like learning how to use there magic, even the grumpy reclusive cousin turned out to be like able. This book had a lot more witch craft than the first book, which was just great and I liked learning what happened to Amber's parents. There also was a touch of romance.
When Amber's Aunt Gretchen turns up early to help in the shop with the town's festival, Amber knows something isn't right. Then her sister turns up. Is someone using magic to get all the remaining Blackwood family together in one place? This seems possible when a dead body is found in the same hotel as her Aunt was staying in but something about the body is very strange and the feeling in room even stranger. It seems someone from there past has come back to haunt them and to solve this murder might mean Amber has to solve the death of her parents. The problem is her aunt isn't talking and the only other person there that day has gone mad and doesn't want anything to do with the sisters. Has the time come for Amber to finally find out what happened that night? Especially as with magic around not everything is as it seems and she has to quickly learn who she can trust.
I like the narrator and I am glad she is the narrator for both books in this series. She is easy to listen to and speaks clearly. Book and narrator both a real treat for the ear.
