Publisher's Summary

The only thing more twisted than a cursed witch is her family tree.

For the past 14 years, Edgehill’s resident secret witch, Amber Blackwood, has been haunted by her parents’ deaths. The whole town knows about the tragedy, but the details remain a mystery even to Amber. From her tiny studio apartment above her shop, The Quirky Whisker, Amber can see her partially rebuilt old house out on the edge of town. Although she now has a good life - delighting children with her magically infused toys, concocting healing tinctures for Edgehill’s residents, doting on her cats, Tom and Alley, and sitting on the committee for the town’s annual Here and Meow Festival - she feels stuck in the past.

Amber suspects the fire that killed her parents was set deliberately by a witch from the cursed Penhallow clan, from whom no one has heard even a whisper since the night her parents died. The clan’s sudden disappearance is no coincidence to Amber, but her aunt Gretchen refuses to believe there’s a connection and urges Amber to stop looking for someone to blame. So Amber is shocked when Aunt Gretchen shows up unexpectedly, claiming the Penhallows have resurfaced and that one of them is heading for Edgehill with Amber in his sights.

Aunt Gretchen knows more about the fabled clan than she’s letting on. Amber is determined to find out what her aunt is hiding, and what the Penhallow seeks, before the same treacherous force that took Amber’s parents’ lives claims her own.

Pawsitively Cursed

Amber Blackwell is getting ready for the big fashion show like everyone else in their small town. When her aunt Gretchen shows up claiming she just needs to be near family, but the cat comes out of the bag when Amber's sister Willow shows up out of the blue as well. It seems the Penhallows are coming and they are coming for Amber. This is such a quaint and fun mystery book with a bit of witchcraft thrown in. I think it was funny that all these clans where under this one city at a time but it seems none of the town members had a clue what was going on until Amber tells the sheriff, pure proof of small towness. I really liked this (audio)book and hope to someday get to review the rest, yes they are that much fun. Narrator Victoria Villarreal made this book even more exciting through her voice. She brought to life all the characters and was able to make me feel all range of emotions as I progressed though the audio. This is a great book no matter which format you choose.

penhallows

Amber can't seem to catch a break. and the sad part to me is that she doesn't even know the strength of her powers yet!!! The secrets her family kept to keep her safe could harm her now!! The penhallows are ruthless and relentless! I liked how things turned out so far. Poor Jackson, I love his character. Looking forward to more. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator did a great job.

Even Better than Book One

Ok Melissa Jackson - I see what you are doing! This was an amazing continuation of the story line the author began in book one. No spoilers - but wow - there were some plot twists that just when I thought I knew where the story was going, surprise, we went a different more intriguing way. Melissa Jackson is an excellent story teller and I can’t wait to get to book three! The narration is also very good - right on point. I recommend both this series and Melissa Jackson. After I finished these three books, I will be looking for other titles by the author.

Excellent

An excellent read. It's quite poignant with flash backs to the night Amber's parents died but the story is so filled with suspense and excitement I couldn't put it down. I loved the hint of romance and I look forward to finding out what happens next. I voluntarily reviewed a gifted copy.

So good!

Wow, this was so much better than book 1. I decided to pick this one up because I really enjoyed book 1 and was different for all the romance I normally read. And I am so glad I did because it was really great, I was so enthralled by it, making my own theories and getting my own conclusions, so I really enjoyed everything from beginning to end. The narration was really good. Victoria Villareal has a really great voice, paced and cadence that makes the narration really enjoyable.

Great new discovery

I enjoyed every minute of this book and how Amber made new discoveries on this journey. I liked the fact that you got to know some of the characters from the first book a bit better as well as some puzzle pieces from her past falling into place. Loved the narration on this book.

Pawsitively bewitching

I really enjoyed book one and wanted to find out what happened next for Amber, so I got book two. So glad I did I really enjoyed it and hope there is more books to come. I really like the characters and think they are a lot of fun, with things like learning how to use there magic, even the grumpy reclusive cousin turned out to be like able. This book had a lot more witch craft than the first book, which was just great and I liked learning what happened to Amber's parents. There also was a touch of romance. When Amber's Aunt Gretchen turns up early to help in the shop with the town's festival, Amber knows something isn't right. Then her sister turns up. Is someone using magic to get all the remaining Blackwood family together in one place? This seems possible when a dead body is found in the same hotel as her Aunt was staying in but something about the body is very strange and the feeling in room even stranger. It seems someone from there past has come back to haunt them and to solve this murder might mean Amber has to solve the death of her parents. The problem is her aunt isn't talking and the only other person there that day has gone mad and doesn't want anything to do with the sisters. Has the time come for Amber to finally find out what happened that night? Especially as with magic around not everything is as it seems and she has to quickly learn who she can trust. I like the narrator and I am glad she is the narrator for both books in this series. She is easy to listen to and speaks clearly. Book and narrator both a real treat for the ear.
