Read this one first

I read this book as the last in the patternist series, and I kind of wish I had read this one first.

Cool magic systems

I understand it was written in the 70s but I would have enjoyed more world building.

Much respect to Octavia Butler…. What a genius! Brought a realistic black perspective to sci fi or fantasy. My only gripe is that there were only four books! I need that fifth 💐

It All Ties In

Mary's dream came to be and the descendants of the first family continue on. I completely enjoyed this series.

Excellent Ending!

I thoroughly enjoyed this story! It was a great end to the series. While it isn’t necessary to read Clay’s Ark before reading this one, I believe having read it gave me a deeper appreciation for the story and setting. 10/10.

Bringing it all together.

In this book, Octavia brilliantly blends all of the creations from all the books before it. Reading about a character’s using of an ability brought me back to the origin story of that ability.
