Publisher's summary

Welcome back to Virgin River with the books that started it all....

A moving story about survival, forgiveness - and the power of love to heal a wounded spirit.

Marine Corporal Rick Sudder is home early from Iraq - his tour ended abruptly on the battlefield. The carefree boy is gone, replaced by a man who believes his future is as bleak as his mirror image. But can the passion and commitment of a young woman who has never given up on him mend his broken body and shattered heart?

As the people of Virgin River rally around Rick, another recent arrival tests the tightly knit mountain town’s famous welcoming spirit. Dan Brady has a questionable past, and he’s looking for a place to start over. He’d like it to be Virgin River...if he can find a way in. But he never expects to find it in the arms of a woman who was as much an outcast as himself.

For a favorite son returned from war and an outsider looking for a home, Virgin River offers them a chance to make peace with the men they once were...and to find the dreams they thought they’d lost.

Before it was adapted into a Netflix show, Virgin River was a series of more than 20 novels by New York Times best-selling author Robyn Carr. The audiobooks, all read by Audie Award-winning narrator Thérèse Plummer, are well-loved by a wide audience. The series takes place in Virgin River and revolves around new resident Melinda Monroe, a nurse practitioner and midwife. There's more to this sleepy town than first appearances suggest.

Great book in the series and a note about language

As a war veteran, I particularly loved this book. It so accurately reflects what many veterans go through and continue to go through.

I read a review where a reader refused to continue with the series due to the use of the “f” word. I would like to address this.

1. Yes, the “f” word is used frequently in the book. However it is used in the context of how military members speak to each other. Particularly in times of stress and is used in a couple of verbal fights.
2. Considering the amount of sex scenes in her books, I doubt these books are ones you would listen to with children or others within earshot. Just in case, this book is not safe for work (NSFW) and any reader should know that in advance.
3. If you are a war vet, particularly of the Iraq/Afghanistan war, there are chapters in the book which may be triggering to PTSD. I mostly found it very moving to see an author so adeptly address the issues of returning veterans and how a small town can address these challenges and support their vets.

I’m looking forward to the rest of the series and hope any reader won’t be discouraged or turned away by the “salty” language of the book.

No more

I love the Virgin River series. However, I hate the f word, and since it is being used more and more often , I will not listen to any more of the series.

What an emotional ride

I always love the narration by Therese Plummer. But Robyn Carr’s willingness to take on the issues of PTSD, disability, childbirth, star crossed lovers, romance, her knowledge of medicine makes for an exciting and satisfying read.
