Publisher's summary

In a land ruled by the powers of magic, faith, and steel, beings are being summoned by forces more ancient than life itself. The parents of Sulvereia are being stripped of what they hold most dear. Their children.

At the provincial seat of Beacon Hall, a lone priest named Jaakob Suncloak performs his duty at The Temple of the Fates, wishing for something more. He is about to discover that prophecy doesn't work that way.

Lush with dangerous dragons, shape-shifting persons of faith, magnificent beasts of companionship, and demonic creatures that feast on a person’s very heart, Paladin of the Fates tells a story of justice, belief, and hope.

Bursting with fully three-dimensional characters, you are pulled into the world of Sulvereia by your mind, held prisoner by your tears, and made to wait with bated breath until the powerful climax.

This is the first book in a proposed four-book series.

Author Perspective

As the author, I am obviously biased about the story. I take pride in my character development and in depth detail. Each scene was written to ensure the reader would be able to close their eyes and see the scene played out in front of them. But this review is on something I had no control over, and that is the exceptional way Robert Beadle narrated this monstrous tome. He worked with diligence and patience to get each voice just right. When different characters speak, I know a new character is speaking and I love that. It isn't a monotone telling of a story, but a living work of art of narration. Bravo Robert.

Can't wait for the next book!

I thoroughly enjoyed Paladin of the Fates and await the sequel! The plot was surprising, complex and multi-dimensional. The characters were inspiring. Mongiovi's literary skill intensifies throughout the novel, and his ability to quicken the pace was quite impressive. At first, the narrator's accent made it somewhat difficult to understand, but that was my lack of ability, and he only lent authenticity to the story.

Great story, Beautifully read!

I’ve read this book on paperback and absolutely loved it. The characters are fully fleshed out so much so that you fall in love with them, triumph with them, and even mourn with them. Having said that, the narrator gives this well loved book an entirely whole new dimension! He voices the characters wonderfully and gives the book an entirely new life. I highly recommend giving it a listen and sitting back for a daring tale.

Can't wait for the next book!

Full disclosure, I listen to audiobooks in the car, so sometimes I have to go back and re-read parts of books to catch everything. That being said, I listened to this book in it's entirety twice. Plus, there were parts that I would hear and think "WHAT?!" and immediately go back a minute to hear again. Jai J. Mongiovi's characters are well developed and his writing style pulls you in until suddenly you become fully invested in what is happening. Paladin of the Fates is a little magic and a little lore with just the right amount of action and suspense. Robert Beadle as the narrator is absolutely perfect. His accent gives your imagination the seed it needs to play out each scene. If you like well developed fantasy worlds this book is a must. I cannot wait for book 2 to come out.

How to Paladin

I found this book to be a moving read that took me places I did not expect, but was glad I went. The characters are well realized by the author and well voiced by Mr. Beadle.

The story unfolded just fast enough to carry me, but slow enough to keep me wanting to listen further. And I'm not done. I look forward to reading the next book as soon as I can.
