I can’t understand the person reading the book. Highly frustrating!!!! I was very excited to learn from this book. And was completely turned off by the person reading it.

The most helpful resource for Dyslexia

Sally Shaywitz did an unbelievable job of making the most updated and helpful scientific knowledge and know-how about Dyslexia available to everyone involved. I believe I finished listening to this book about six months ago - there is not a week I am not using what I learned here for my children and myself. Shaywitz gave me an insightful understanding of Dyslexia which I will probably appreciate forever.

If you or your child have Dyslexia or difficulty reading or writing, or if you are a teacher or caregiver for children and students of any age, having this knowledge is essential. It must be understood that about 5% of people in any society have Dyslexia - that's one in twenty. Hence, you probably have at least one in your class or kindergarten. And it may be diagnosed early, and as soon as it is diagnosed and assisted - the better.

Excellent! Just Speed Up the Narration

The information in this book is very very good. It has a lot of scientific information and examples of real people with dyslexia. The narration can be improved by using 1.25x speed.

The best book on Dyslexia out!!!

Whoa! Great book. I found out I’m dyslexic late in life (40 yrs old) and this book explained what would have taken me years to cobble together. It is also the book my daughter’s school recommended when she was diagnosed. A must read for anyone who wants to understand dyslexia and how to survive and thrive as a dyslexic.

Authors narration is almost inaudible

The content is so crucial and important, its very ironic that the narration causes auditory issues when speaking about visual issues. I understand that the author is the most qualified to present the material, but in this instance she swallows and gargles so many of her words, its very difficult to figure out what she is actually saying. It would be worth rerecording with a professional voice actor for clarity sake. Content is impeccable.

Great starting point

This book is quite suitable for parents of children who are gifted and have dyslexia. Unfortunately, not all dyslexics are gifted. The average IQ of a person with dyslexia is one standard deviation below the mean. Dr. Shaywitz’s discrepancy model has been challenged repeatedly and should not be implemented as fact, but rather one theory. I would not recommend this book to parents of children who are have nuerodevelopmental, cognitive, or other measurable differences in development as this book can be quite frustrating.
Also, the narration is very difficult to listen to, which is a shame.

Great for parents

This book gives you a great perspective if you are a parent of a child with dyslexia and the things that you can do to help your child. There is less guidance for adults already living with dyslexia though still very insightful. The book doesn’t go much beyond the difficulties of reading associate with dyslexia while there are many other aspects of dyslexia such as ADD which the book does touch on briefly

The Bible of Dyslexia

Sally Shaywitz is the leading expert on dyslexia and this book covers every aspect of the often misunderstood disability. I’ve read many books on the topic, but this one is the most comprehensive. A must read (or listen) for anyone with dyslexia, or has a child or student with dyslexia. Read by the author and enjoyable to listen to.

Every teacher should read this.

This book is a tremendous resource for any teacher and parent. The information about dyslexia and resources to help students overcome dyslexia provided in this text is invaluable!
