Publisher's summary

Do you have a child with oppositional defiant disorder and have no idea how to deal with him or her? Do your child’s defiance and aggression exhaust you and make you angry or worried? If so, this is the audiobook for you.

This book presents a new framework for understanding children’s defiant behavior. The framework is based on the principle that oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) is largely learned. It is not the result of bad parenting or bad genes, but because of bad experiences with parents. By learning to communicate better with your child and by avoiding power struggles, you can change the way your child reacts to you.

All parents want their children to be happy, well-behaved, and to love them unconditionally. Yet there are some children who seem determined not to give their parents this satisfaction. This audiobook contains a proven program for overcoming a child's negative behavior and teaching him or her the skills he needs for cooperative living. These lessons are based on behavioral principles that have been shown to be successful in many difficult child situations.

A much needed resource on oppositional defiant disorder

This audiobook offers a much needed and compassionate approach for parents, dealing with oppositional defiant disorder in their children. The author skillfully emphasizes that the root of ODD often lies in the parent child relationship, rather than solely with the child themselves. As a concerned, parent, I believe my child might fall into this category, and I want to explore the techniques provided before Trying any form of medication. I found the strategies for avoiding power, struggles, setting clear boundaries, and implementing positive reinforcement to be particularly valuable. While change may not happen overnight this book and steals hope that with the right tools and patients parents and children with ODD can achieve a sense of peace. For any parent, struggling with an oppositional defiant child, I highly recommend listening to this audiobook

Tons of useful information and guidance.

This was a much broader subject than I realized. I didn't realize that being a brat was a disorder, but it can be treated with a lot of love and some counseling for the parent and child. What I didn't expect was a deep look into the parents ' behavior and their pasts. There are some useful suggestions for helping build parent-child bonds. Several health conditions are explored which might be at the root of the behavior.

Very well narrated with an empathetic but authoritative voice. so the time goes quickly. I would recommend this book for parents at a very early stage in the child's development of the disturbing behavior.

Informative and practical strategies

This audio was great for me and my wife as we deal with some challenges from our son who is 7 years old. He is our first child to reach this age and we have noticed some violent behaviour towards us in the last 3 months and we wanted to understand how we can work together to help ease the situation and impact on our son. The chapters are really helpful, well-placed and clearly narrated. We felt that all the chapters provided value and all of them are well worth the time if you are going through similar challenges as we are currently. Highly recommended.

Very informative

I found this audiobook to be very informative information about ODD. There’s a lot of misinformation out there and a lot of times ODD kids are very misunderstood as well. The author breaks it down and makes it easy to understand. I will be gifting the book and recommending to parents struggling with ODD kids.

A lifesaver for parents of defiant children!

You know when your child's defiance and stubbornness make you feel lost and drained? This book gets it. It tells you that it's not your fault, not bad parenting or genes – it's about bad experiences.
What's so awesome about it is how it's all about talking to your child in a better way and avoiding those power struggles that just wear you out. And it doesn't just throw a bunch of jargon at you; it gives you practical stuff you can actually do. They've got this plan that's all about helping your kid change their behavior, teaching them how to live well with others. It's like a secret recipe for turning things around.
But what really hit me hard was the feeling of someone who understands. The author really cares, you can tell. They've been through it, and they're not just saying, "Hey, try this." They're saying, "I get you, and here's a lifeline." After listening to this audiobook, I felt like there's hope, like maybe things can get better.

Compassionate and Practical

This audiobook provides a much-needed compassionate and practical approach for parents of children with Oppositional Defiant Disorder. The author does a great job emphasizing that the roots of ODD often lie in the relationship between parent and child, not within the child themselves. I have a grandson who I think falls into this category. I am hoping my son and daughter-in-law will try these techniques, but I wanted to listen to it first. I appreciated the strategies for avoiding power struggles, setting clear limits, and using positive reinforcement consistently. While change won't happen overnight, this book gives hope that with the proper tools and patience, parents and children with ODD can find some peace. I would highly recommend this audio book for any parent struggling to with an oppositional child.
