Super!

I can't say enough good about this Andy Carpenter series. I could listen to them over and over. Good humor, light mystery, great narrator and kept me very interested. The only thing negative I can say is they aren't long enough and there isn't enough of them.

Enjoyable mystery

Interesting quirky sense of humor and attitude reminds me of Lois McMaster Bujold's Miles Vorkosigan character especially with the same narrator. Grover Gardner does an excellent job of presenting this irreverent style of writing. Flows well and doesn't contain inappropriate language or content. I only wish it had been longer.

Really should be 4.5 Stars

The narrator makes the main character sound like Clinger (from MASH). It takes a bit of getting used to but he kinda grows on you. His characters are distinct and well spoken so the narration is a definite 4 star.

The story is a bit predictable (you won't be on the edge of your seat wondering whodunnit) but the characters are well-written and the story is well-paced, making it very enjoyable to follow. There are some very funny "one-liners" throughout the story, and much of the time they are unexpected which makes for a very pleasant surprise.

All in all it's probably worth 4.5 stars - if the story was just a smidge less predictable I'd have given it a 5. I will be buying more Andy Carpenter stories, for sure.

Very Entertaining

I really enjoy this author... I wish the books were longer though. Andy Carpenter his very witty and self deprecating which makes the books very entertaining... Looking forward to more...

I'm in love with Andy Carpenter. He's a lawyer with a heart. And he loves dogs. Can't be beat.

Almost anyone. This guy's voice is terrible. Scott Brick, Jay Snyder, Richard Ferrone, Ron McCarty.. all would have knocked it out of the park

Interesting Basic Story, Writing is Borderline

The basic story of Open & Shut by David Rosenfelt is a good legal undertaking, but the writer's constant attempt at humor and being cute wears a little thin. The narration is okay. I am only half way through, but probably won't make it to the end. I can foresee about how it will end, but I won't get to hear all the details......sorry.

great story. very well read. unacceptable profanity. unfortunate because that'll make another book by this unlikely.

Very enjoyable and humorous

Great first in the series. Likeable and memorable characters. Clever mix of mystery and comedy, which mainly comes in the firm of witty lines from the lead character.

Listen up... his first novel I gather.

Well read. Intricate plot. Lots of side stories that merge to become part of the main plot.
Sometimes too many NYC cute remarks. But having heard a couple of other David Rosenfelt novels, I know he tones that down. If you like the lawyer end of murder mysteries with very well written characters, this is the author for you.
