But the fun stops the day Andy's dad, Paterson, New Jersey's legendary ex-DA, drops dead in front of him at a game in Yankee Stadium. The shocks pile on as he discovers his dad left him with two unexpected legacies: a fortune of $22 million that Andy never knew existed...and a murder case with enough racial tinder to burn down City Hall.
Struggling to serve justice and bring honor to his father, Andy must dig up some explosive political skeletons - and an astonishing family secret that can close his case (and his mouth) for good.

The story is a bit predictable (you won't be on the edge of your seat wondering whodunnit) but the characters are well-written and the story is well-paced, making it very enjoyable to follow. There are some very funny "one-liners" throughout the story, and much of the time they are unexpected which makes for a very pleasant surprise.
All in all it's probably worth 4.5 stars - if the story was just a smidge less predictable I'd have given it a 5. I will be buying more Andy Carpenter stories, for sure.
Really should be 4.5 Stars

Would you consider the audio edition of Open and Shut to be better than the print version?
I haven't read the print versionWhat other book might you compare Open and Shut to and why?
Probably many John Grisham booksWho would you have cast as narrator instead of Grover Gardner?
Almost anyone. This guy's voice is terrible. Scott Brick, Jay Snyder, Richard Ferrone, Ron McCarty.. all would have knocked it out of the parkIf you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
No ideaAny additional comments?
I will listen to another book by this author if someone else narratesWould have been great with a better narrator

Sometimes too many NYC cute remarks. But having heard a couple of other David Rosenfelt novels, I know he tones that down. If you like the lawyer end of murder mysteries with very well written characters, this is the author for you.
Listen up... his first novel I gather.
