Publisher's summary

He came home a hero and lost the only woman he’s ever loved....

John
I have no idea how to survive without my beloved Ava. She had no choice but to move on with her life during my six-year deployment and has now married Eric. I hate him for taking her from me. I’d prefer to wallow in my depression and heartbreak, but the whole damned world wants a piece of the SEAL Team leader who helped capture the world’s most-wanted terrorist. I need help handling the relentless requests, and when Ava sends her new sister-in-law to manage the media circus for me, I’m prepared to hate her on principle. Her brother took my Ava. What else do I need to know about her?

Julianne
It takes five seconds to realize Ava’s ex is going to be the most complicated and difficult client I’ve ever had, but the opportunity to represent the most celebrated man in the world could make my career. I’m determined to do the job, even if I dislike John from the moment I meet him. And I like everyone. So much so that my brothers worry about me being exploited by those who would take advantage of my unwavering love for others. But John.... He’s in a class by himself, and his bitterness is a festering wound that I begin to wish I could somehow fix for him. The more time we spend together, the more our mutual disdain morphs into something that feels an awful lot like desire. There’s no way I can want this man, or so I tell myself, and when Eric finds out I’ve developed feelings for the man causing trouble in his new marriage, well....

That’s going to be a hot mess.

The hotly anticipated follow up to Five Years Gone is here! Praise for Five Years Gone:

"There is not a doubt in my mind that this book will be one of the top books of 2018 for me." (5 stars, Julie from Hey Girl HEA)

"A gut-wrenching emotional roller coaster, Five Years Gone was an incredibly moving novel about the sacrifices we make for the ones we love." (4.5 star review from Harlequin Junkie)

"The stars take turns telling the fast-paced story from their points of view in Force's hard-to-put-down tale." (Booklist)

"Five Years Gone is a story of loss, love, and above all strength. I am in awe with this book and cannot get it out of my head. MUST READ FOR 2018!" (5 stars from Crystal's Book World)

"Force entices with heartbreak, but inspires with tales of courageous sacrifice and hope. If truth is more powerful than fiction, Ms. Force blurs the line between the two." (5 Stars from Isha Coleman)

Utterly Fantastic

Is there anything better than a Happily Ever After?
Seriously book 1 gutted me. I loved the whole story from the beginning to the end I couldn’t and wouldn't have asked for a better heart-wrenching story.

I didn’t know about this book until about a month or so before it was due to come out and let me tell you I was so freaking pumped knowing John was going to get his Happily Ever After. I love, love. It is why I love romance so very much.

This story was not only worth the wait it was necessary the struggles one couple goes through is not uncommon with a situation like this. But the way they all work through the hard nitty-gritty stuff is what makes a great story, or at least it does for me. I enjoyed getting to see the aftermath not because it was interesting or made the story better but because it's real and a little real in our fictional romance is what is necessary. It helps build that connection with the characters.

This story is one I will not soon forget and I can’t even tell you how wonderful the narration was for all the characters, they really bring this story that extra thing that makes a great story exceptional.

AMAZING

Marie Force is truly talented. Five Years Gone was my first audio book so it was fitting to have One Year Home be the second. Both are amazing books. The love, the lost, and the new beginnings hit you right in the heart! Marie makes you feel everything that her characters are feeling. The Narrators did a wonderful job at capturing what each character sounded like. If you haven’t read or listen to these books I highly recommend you do!

Great story, HATED the reader of Jules!

This was an amazing story. I loved all the presenters EXCEPT THE READER OF JULES! The way she spoke was like nails on a chalkboard.

The story was really sweet and loved the way it ended. Would definitely recommend!

Good Story

I liked the story, good to find out what happened with everyone BUT the reader of Julianne was so tedious!!! She made her sound like a major snob. Almost deleted the book before I even finished it but wanted to find out the rest of the story.

Unimaginative, boring, predictable, dull

With such high ratings, I thought this would be a good book; it wasn't. The characters were limp and lifeless...one-dimensional. There was no real storyline, no real emotion, no authenticity to any part of the material. I think this author might be cranking out way too many books in as short as possible time frame. There's just no substance. Tossing this one back for a quality read. I guess once a person has read a really good book, it's hard to go back to reading subpar books. As readers, we become invested in the story...and unfortunately, there was none here.

Way to go

This is one of the best love stories every. I love that John was able to find love with Jules "Poppy"---they are a good fit.

Emotive and angsty sequel

If you were left after FIVE YEARS GONE (book one) satisfied like me, you might question the need for a second book. Ten minutes into this listen, I realised that this was the sequel I didn’t know I needed and I could quickly see I was in for an emotive and angsty ride.

I knew this story was going to centre on John, broken, battered and bruised both outwardly and psychologically. This reluctant hero, thrown into fame and fortune he didn’t want or seek made for compelling reading. After FIVE YEARS GONE, I felt sorry for John but I still wasn’t his biggest fan, I wanted Ava with Eric so…yeah. Coming at this story from John’s POV meant everything from an alerted perception and I became his cheer team.

John’s story included accurate and compelling narrative about recovery from amputation, shrapnel, PTSD and sepsis. I challenge anyone not to pulled into the journey. Yet, most compelling was John’s mangled heart and broken soul. The story of John connecting to Julianne was fast but not too fast and I devoured the story.

So you think you know where this review is going? Colour me surprised when this isn’t just John’s story but it was very much back to Ava and Eric. I didn’t know how I felt about that and what was happening with this very new HEA; it was a rollercoaster. I was just glad we had four fantastic narrators along to present the ride to the listener.

This duology has been one of my favourite and most memorable military romances. I don’t often seek out this kind of story but Navy Captain John West series is one you should read if you’re a fan of this sub-genre or if you’ve never tried it before. This duology has made a Marie Force fan of me and I am eager to try my hand at her other kinds of romances and in 2020, I will.

2nd fiddle

I didn't like the love story and felt that Jules was second fiddle to Ava. It seemed to me that John gravitated to her as a convenient rebound, even though I didn't think he realized he was doing it. Jules seemed to not care that she is second choice. The only thing I really liked about the book was it acknowledged the sacrifice and challenges that military people deal with every day.
