Publisher's summary

Make no mistakes about it. I know what I look like to others. Young, government-aided, pregnant mom. They see Lucy on my hip, and they see a mistake. I mean, why else would someone have a child so young, right?

They couldn’t be more wrong. I’m too busy most days between parenting, work, and finishing up my last year of nursing school to let their judging gaze tear me down, until he moves into the vacant house next to the apartments I live in.

His cold, blunt observation of us doesn’t differ from any other stranger. He doesn’t know me, but he’s already painting a picture of who he thinks I am in his mind. He judges my very round belly, Lucy’s inability to leave him alone, the bags under my eyes, and the fact that I couldn’t care less what I look like anymore.

He’s a rude guy. Stays that way for months, too. Then, something happens, I’m not even sure what.

Judgmental Guy decides Lucy and me - as well as baby Eli, are worth his friendship. Turns out, Judgmental Guy isn’t too mean. Okay, he kind of still is. But he graduates to Elijah. I build an unlikely friendship with him which deems it necessary for him to start smiling around me and my kids.

I’m wrong again. Elijah isn’t rude. He’s terrifying. His strange acts of kindness are unraveling me.

Elijah is only my friend. Right?

Oh, fudge. I think I’m wrong. Again.

Single mom slow burn romance.

Loved!!

I really loved this book! It wasn’t the typical romance novel and I adore stories about single Mom’s who have to work so dang hard and get no recognition. This was a wonderful story! I want more and more! The narration was nice too!

Heartfelt!

Michelle has written a fantastic story that is so true for many couples. It has all the emotions! It had a lot of humor in it that made me smile!
Chris Solon brought out all of the characters emotions with his narration! This is the first time I have listen to him, but it won’t be the last.

I absolutely loved Elijah and Hadley’s story!

I listened to this book in two days and Ioved, loved, loved this story. This may be a slow-burn romance, but it’s by no means clean either. The sex scenes are extremely well-written and hot! Elijah is a the owner of a tattoo shop, covered in tattoos. He’s surly with a mean disposition and a pessimistic view of people in general. Hadley is a single mom, pregnant with her second child. After throwing out her loser boyfriend and father to her children, Hadley is just keeping it together as she works and goes to nursing school on top of raising kids.

When they first meet, it’s not love at first sight. Both of them make general, biases assumptions based on appearances. But as neighbors, they begin to learn about each other. Love grows between them, but Elijah also begins to love the children in a way he never expected, as he learns to embrace family life.

This story very well written, and the narration is excellent. Michelle Gross wrote a story that feels completely real and engaging from the prologue to the very end. Christopher Solon’s narration helps craft the story. His incredibly gifted voice brings female, male and child characters to life. I found his interpretation of Lucy, Hadley’s daughter, was smart, funny, and bluntly honest as only a real-life four year old can be.

Highly recommend!

Compelling Story

Great narration with a remarkable use of tones! This fantastic audiobook is about 2 very unlikely characters that slowly become friends after an unfortunate(fortunate) beginning. Trust is slow in coming but worth the wait.

A hidden gem

I had never heard of this author, but I was pleasantly surprised by how entertained I was by the story. I think I would have been grossed out with all the breast milk stuff before I became a mother, so take that into consideration 😂. The narrator did pretty good for doing both female and male voices.

Excellent entertainment

This book had me smiling like I was chowing on my favorite ice cream . The story of a single young mother in a bad relationship brought tears to my eyes. She was many friends I went to nursing school with in bad situationships working , going to school and raising kids alone. Loved the story because the romance was well developed and felt so real. By the time they hooked up, I was cheering for this relationship to work. Elijah’s grumpiness, tatoos and assholery without the promiscuity was gold. And there was Lucy the 4 year old whose sass made this book even better .
The single reader had a wonderful southern accent and was able to give each character a beautiful distinct voice .

Heartwarming

I loved the book so much that as soon as I read the e-book, I bought the audiobook and paperback. At first I was thrown a little by the fact that there’s only a male narrator, BUT he did a fantastic job narrating the MMC, FMC, and especially little Lucy’s voice. I’ll definitely be re-listening to this book again in the future. Loved it!

Such a sweet story!

This was a slow burn but it was so worth it! I loved the characters and was sad to see it end. The narrator was perfect for this story.

Unexpected!!

I really liked this book. I had to start and stop because I didn't really like the narrator. When I got to the part where Lucy and Elijah met I couldn't stop listening. There was very little drama. This was a story about a snob of a man getting over his preconceived notions and finding love. This was also a story aboit a single mother learning to trust again, stand up for herself, and deciding that she deserves happiness.

I loved it and it was totally sweet.
