Acerca de esta escucha

Easy Company, 506th Airborne Division, U.S. Army, was as good a rifle company as any in the world. From their rigorous training in Georgia in 1942 to D-Day and victory, Ambrose tells the story of this remarkable company, which kept getting the tough assignments. Easy Company was responsible for everything from parachuting into France early D-Day morning to the capture of Hitler's Eagle's Nest at Berchtesgaden.

Band of Brothers is the account of the men of this remarkable unit who fought, went hungry, froze, and died, a company that took 150 percent casualities and considered the Purple Heart a badge of office. Drawing on hours of interviews with survivors as well as the soldiers' journals and letters, Stephen Ambrose tell the stories - often in the men's own words - of these American hereoes.

( San Francisco Chronicle)
"As a member of just such a unit...I am impressed by how well Mr. Ambrose has captured the true essence of a combat rifle company." (The New York Times Book Review)
"A valuable and fascinating record....In these pages, the reader can vicariously walk with the men of E Company, suffer and laugh with them." (The Times-Picayune)

Would you consider the audio edition of Band of Brothers to be better than the print version?

It's the best WWII story ever told. These men are true hero's. Lt. Winters is my hero.
I couldn't put it down.

This is my husband's review.. FANTASTIC HEROISM

The history presented is sometimes biased and in conflict with well documented historiagraphy

Not completely biased, but it could have been better

An example is the author states that Eisenhower “quickly agreed“ with Monty on theextremely dangerous com Plex and risky plan of market garden. On the contrary, if you study our most respected historians you will find that Eisenhower argued against this plan very strongly over a period of weeks, and finally gave in to a plan that was significantly simplified and less ambitious. It still failed spectacularly.

There’s many other examples. The author should’ve spent more time with our most respected Academic historians. He did OK, but should’ve done better given his excellent reputation.

This miniseries on HBO is so good I record it and rewatch it every Christmas. I’ve read all of the individual accounts of people in this book. This overview is very good and I can’t believe how well Spielberg and Hanks nailed the production.

One of the great WWII recounts. Narration tolerable but not good.

As a non-TV junkie, I learned of WWII Easy Company, 506th Regiment, 101st Airborne Division in a Facebook post about one of its members, Staff Sergeant Darrell "Shifty" Powers. From there, I learned of both the book and the HBO series, BAND OF BROTHERS. I purchased the book right away and took several days to audibly read it. With all the names and events, as soon as I finished, I listened again. This time, it took just a few hours into the second day. Author Stephen Ambrose took details from Company E members' personal interviews, diaries and letters to loved ones to author this well-written historical book. As a friend of mine stated (a Vietnam Veteran member of the 101st Airborne), "War is Hell," and this book brings that to light. I often wonder in amazement how anyone survives war. The book also points out how different leadership methods can make or break an organization (military or otherwise).

I highly recommend BAND OF BROTHERS to anyone, first and foremost, who wishes to honor the dwindling number of The Greatest Generation; and, second, who enjoys well-written books about History, WWII and read by a top-notch narrator. In fact, I got the impression that both author Stephen Ambrose and narrator Tim Jerome were honored to be involved with the book and treated it as a "work of love."

Great, as well as Gruesome

The Band of Brothers HBO series is one of my favorite series of all time.

As amazing as that series is, this is better. There are a few unbelievable stories documented here that didn’t make the mini-series.

Just fantastic. An absolute must have for any WWII buff.

I plan on listening to this at least a croupier more times in the future.

Highest recommendation.

An amazing story of bravery and brotherhood

I have read this book twice and listen to it twice. Each time I do it I learn something new about the experiences of easy company in World War II. It is an excellent narrative, well read and researched.

Excellent narrative of a single company’s experience in World War II

If you think the HBO series was good then you should definitely check out this book which it was based on. Stephen Ambrose does a remarkable job of making you feel like you are right there with E company through their war time experiences. This books helps one appreciate the absolute sacrifices these members of the greatest generation made for the rest of the world.

A must read!
