Well now and maybe spoilers

Transparency: I was given the book from an audible code from the author herself. In exchange I would give an honest review.

How I read: Listen on Audible.

My thoughts on the book: This was a well written and executed book. The start and middle were very good. It was well done i flew through this book. I was always very excited to pick my headphones back up and "read" it. If I had to make any changes it would be to the end of the book. I know it was wrapped up neat in a bow and that was done well. I felt complete after reading. However, it felt a bit rush. Either by deadline or just pacing I am not sure. It just felt like "oh thank goodness getting this done."

The book is about death and missing girls and the stain such a crime can color upon the soul. We follow around a few characters who seem like they have nothing to do with each other. However, the way they are intertwine ends up being quite the "twist". I say "twist" because some of the twist I saw coming and others. Like good job ma'am.

This is my second read of 2024 and I am so glad I have 2 more books of hers to finish. By the title and the cover art I was very unexcited to read this but this was so good. The rushed feeling at the end is the only reason this book didn't get 5 stars. The performance from Grant was very good. It wasn't clear where this took place except from the words like petrol and car park I assume over seas. And that is why they used an Irish actor. There was only once place I made a note in this whole book. That was Chapter Twenty / 03:51:17 The music that played was weird and out of place. That's it. Well done you.

Phenomenal Psychological Thriller

One Blue Shoe is a phenomenally written story that is so complex and interwoven by lies, betrayal, accidents, and murder. The author perfectly combines pieces of each secret to tell of a truly heartbreaking story that is not as simple as one might think.
Daisy's death is not as simple and cut and dry as it first seems. Daisy's story can be pulled right off the front page as sad as that is. The complexity of all the avenues that needed to take place for this single event just didn't change her family's life, but so many others for the good and the worst.
Many dark and dangerous secrets will be revealed by the supposedly good people on Oak Street. I am in true awe at how people could live with themselves without going absolutely mad. Paranoia does play a major role with one of our main characters in a huge way. Sorry, no spoilers given, but I will say this it is BIG.
This is my first book from this author, but it's definitely not my last. I love how they are capable of intertwining so many details into one big psychological thriller. The narration was on point he gave the characters life and purpose. Grant Love was absolutely phenomenal and engaging. I received this book for free upon my request. I highly recommend this book. This is my honest, unbiased review that I am voluntarily leaving here of my own accord.

A Gripping Psychological Thriller

A gripping psychological thriller that recounts how easy it is for already unhappy people to fall down the rabbit hole and descend from shock and panic to paranoia; and on to illogical madness and worse … No spoilers here, but it’s well worth the listen.

A complex, enthralling story

Received as as an audio copy to review from the narrator, Grant Love; this is an honest review. Grant delivers a superb performance to bring to life a harrowing and profound story that begins with the accidental death of Daisy by Chris and Julie during one rainy night; their fateful decision to hide the woman's body instead of telling the police what happens leaves Chris constantly wrecked by the guilt of their actions and battling an internal dialogue convincing him that his wife will sacrifice his freedom to save herself if Chris doesn't do something to keep their secret hidden. But Daisy's death has opened a Pandora's Box of secrets DI Anna Moore begins to expose as she works to give Daisy's peace in the wake of their loss makes her realize you truly never know what is happening behind closed doors... and all of the revelations are shattering. Accompanied by music and sound effects, One Blue Shoe is a mesmerizing story and worth the listen.

Highly recommended.

A Gripping Tale

One Blue Shoe
by Molly Garcia
narrated by Grant Love

I received a complimentary audio copy and am voluntarily leaving a review.

“One Blue Shoe” by Molly Garcia is a captivating mystery novel that weaves a complex web of secrets, hidden pasts, and unexpected connections. The story follows Chris and Julie, a typical couple grappling with their troubled marriage. What once was easy is now a battle even to be in the same room together.
While driving home late one evening, an argument erupts, and during the heat of exchanged words, they hear a thump. More importantly, they feel the thump, which turns out to be a young woman’s body colliding with their car. The couple chooses to conceal the body rather than report the accident, leading to a life overshadowed by murder and increasing complications. As days pass, the paranoia grows, and lies cover up more lies. Despite the peaceful facade, not everything is as it seems in this neighbourhood.

The author skillfully builds tension and suspense as DI Anna Moore uncovers long-buried truths about family histories and the shocking revelations that tie them to present-day tragedies. The author’s vivid descriptions and well-crafted dialogue bring the characters to life, making them relatable and engaging.
DI Moore finds more than she bargained for as she copes with the grief and unfolding events on a single street. The story gains more complexity for Julie and Chris as they struggle with personal demons.

Molly Garcia deftly handles the intertwining plotlines, revealing the connections between the various characters and events in a way that keeps readers interested until the very end. The pacing is superb, as each chapter builds on the previous one, culminating in a satisfying and surprising ending.
The audiobook is narrated by Grant Love, who successfully incorporates various tones and expressions. He grasps the subtleties of language and brings the characters to life with enthusiasm and passion.

I rate the book 5 out of 5 stars for its engaging plot, well-developed characters, and masterful handling of suspense. For lovers of mystery and suspense novels that delve into the complexities of family dynamics and the long-lasting effects of previous decisions, “One Blue Shoe” is an absolute must-read. Molly Garcia has crafted a gripping tale that will keep readers on the edge of their seats, eager to unravel the truth behind Daisy’s disappearance and the web of secrets that implicate several families.

It’s almost like a graphic audio

I find myself immersed in "One Blue Shoe" by molly Garcia. the audiobook held my attention with its compelling mystery narrative. While not my usual genre, the storyline revolves around a detective unraveling the disappearance of two girls—one in her twenties, the other a high school student. Despite its predictability, which may have been intentional, I awarded it a solid four stars. The audio experience, initially challenging due to the narrator's distinct accent, but eventually adjusted to his accent, evolved into a captivating journey, enhanced by the narrator's skillful inclusion of sound effects, resembling a graphic novel in moments. Overall, I recommend it, especially to mystery thriller enthusiasts. As I venture into Garcia's next work, "Willow Weeps," I invite you to explore this engaging and easily digestible read, particularly if you enjoy the mystery genre.

I loved the narration of Grant Love, who brings out the suspense, characters and makes this a great listen.

Chris and Julie’s marriage is going down hill, even a night out can make it worse. What makes it worse is a murder even my accident. The accidental death of Daisy by Chris and Julie and their decision to hide the body instead of telling the police. Chris is struggling with the guilt of their actions. The death of Daisy, has let out many secrets. DI Anna Moore is on the case, and keeps uncovering lies. Will she find out the truth.

One small choice can have big consequences…

How well do you really know your neighbors? What might they be truly capable of? It’s crazy to imagine the depths someone will go to in order to cover up an accident, and how quickly a person can spiral into the depths of paranoia. Performance is stellar as expected of Grant Love, and a great story to listen to!
