Winnie Smith is flying high—she’s part of a tightknit Cape Cod family, her career as an event planner has taken off, and she’s falling head over heels for the first time in her life with a man who seems perfect. Unfortunately, it all comes crashing down between the bounce house and ice cream at a child’s birthday party when her client outs her as the other woman—something she would never in her wildest dreams want to be. Heartbroken that her first love is a cheating liar, angry with herself for being duped and humiliated with the implication that she’s a housewrecker, Winnie tries to set the record straight, which unfortunately makes things worse. With her business and reputation in tatters, she needs to get out of town for a while.

On her sister’s suggestion, Winnie agrees to be the temporary live-in personal assistant for Lorenzo Santini, M.D., a brilliant surgeon nicknamed Dr. Satan, thanks to his wretched interpersonal skills. Lorenzo will be speaking at several medical conferences in the next couple of months and could use a PA. They’ve met before, and their first impressions of each other were less than favorable. That’s okay. They don’t need to be best friends—Winnie just wants a place where she’s not being side-eyed, and Lorenzo needs someone to take care of the details in his very busy life (and maybe soften his sharp edges). Except they recognize something in each other…a sense of not quite fitting in, not quite being seen. After all, Winnie’s the fourth daughter in a family of five kids, and Lorenzo spent his childhood at a school for gifted children, away from his parents and siblings.

Over the next three months, Winnie will bring some much-needed humanity to Lorenzo’s life, and Lorenzo will help Winnie see all she has to offer the world. And of course, they’ll fall in love.
