Publisher's Summary

A rogue redeemed

As Washington burns, Callista Brooke is trapped in the battle between her native England and her adopted homeland. She is on the verge of losing everything, including her life, when a handsome Englishman cuts through the violent crowd to claim that she is his. Callie falls into her protector's arms, recognizing that he is no stranger but the boy she'd once loved a lifetime ago.

Lord George Gordon Audley had been Callie's best friend, and it was to Gordon she turned in desperation to avoid a loathsome arranged marriage. But the repercussions of his gallant attempt to rescue her sent Callie packing to Jamaica and Gordon on a one-way trip to the penal colony of Australia.

Against all odds, Gordon survived. Finding Callie is like reclaiming his tarnished soul, and, once again, he vows to do whatever is necessary to protect her and those she loves. But the innocent friendship they shared as children has become a dangerous passion that may save or destroy them when they challenge the aristocratic society that exiled them both.

Narrator lacks range and depth.

Narrator has no intonation for character voices and no feeling when telling the story. She simply uses a more nasally voice vs a breathy feminine voice to differentiate male from female. It was painful. The story was ok not the author's best.

We find out more about the Westerly failure.

Gordon was part as the "Lost Lords series" , apearing in two episodes, saving two of the other former classmates, and being known as the one that was not saved by the Westerly school.
Taking a commission to go to the rescue of an English born widow, in the war torn American colony, Gordon finds much more than he bargained for.
This off shoot is as good as that original series.

This was my first time to listen to an audible book. it is not my first preference in reading but it was so nice to be able to listen and get my work/chores done at the same time. The book was nice . The narrator did a great job reading it.

Historically woven, richly told story.

One can't help but feel the anguish as evil hunts the innocent, yet share the joy as fate intervenes and the intricate story unfolds.

Don’t waste your money

Predictable, pathetic. Zero surprises. MJP could have (and maybe) faxed this one in. Definitely not her best work.
