Publisher's summary

Best-selling author Victoria Holt spins breath-taking tales glimmering with danger and romance. In this entrancing novel, set in late 1800s Europe, a beautiful English schoolgirl participates in an ancient celebration, only to discover she no longer knows the difference between truth and myth. As shadows lengthen, 17-year-old Helena Trant and her classmates must finish their picnic in the Black Forest. Tonight young men will be out to honor Loke, the god of mischief, with drinking and pranks - no woman will be safe. As Helena walks through the misty woods, she loses her friends, but her fear turns to joy when a broad-shouldered man on a horse rescues her. The bewitching time she spends dining and dancing with him seems a thrilling dream - until that fateful night alters her life forever - blurring the borders between reality and dreams. One of the world’s most popular authors, Victoria Holt skillfully weaves intrigue, suspense, and rapture into impetuous Helena’s exploits. Virginia Leishman’s spellbinding narration will leave you alternately holding your breath with anticipation or sighing with bliss.

A classic ....

Any additional comments?

I have enjoyed Victoria Holt since I was a teenager. I was very happy to see that there are three of her books on audible. I usually don't write reviews ... but the first person who wrote one is just way off base. While I agree that this is NOT one of my very favorites ... it is worthy of a listen and I totally disagree with the previous disparaging remarks. I guess I am partial as I consider these books OLD friends....I guess looking thru the rose colored glasses of my youth makes me sentimental ...

Favorite Writer from teenage years

If you could sum up On the Night of the Seventh Moon in three words, what would they be?

I love Victoria Holt books and have read all that has been printed. I wished that more were on audio because I have truly enjoyed listening to them again. She is also know as Phillippa A Carr. I have not checked for any audio under this name as yet. I am unable to read comfortably so getting to listen has been a wonderful experience for me for I missed reading so very much. As far as what I loved best, I love all of her story lines equally.

Fantasy Romance - Rated PG

This is a classic "girl likes the bad boy and their love is true" fiction story. I guess I don't fantasize that way so the story was unbelievably improbable. However, I did appreciate the lack of swearing and explicit sex scenes.

Romantic novel mystery

What made the experience of listening to On the Night of the Seventh Moon the most enjoyable?

The most enjoyable feature was the suspenseful storyline without unnecessary language or crudeness. This is a story told with just enough hints of future twists and turns it keep the reader wanting more.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Helena was my favorite, of course. She rarely doubted herself yet in the end allowed her determination to carry her through.

What does Virginia Leishman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Her accent and enunciation of words heightened the strong character of the heroine. This helped to make her character more believeable.to me.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

NA

Any additional comments?

I would contrast this storyline to a classic age version of Gone Girl without the offensive language. A very good read.

Unique styling of writing.

Took an hour or so to understand the adventure, and the plot only thickens as the book progresses. YES it indeed is a romance. Good grief. Not all see in shades of black and white. Always allow for some gray. Read it. Surprises at every turn.

a wonderful story from my young years

I was thrilled to find this beloved book on audible. I own every Victoria Holt book available. the narrator was perfect to tell the story. my biggest complaint was when someone would Interrupt and I would have to put it down for a minute. I want to Immediately start from the first and listen again.

I love a gothic style book!

I was pulled in quickly! Reader was good. The story got a little long about 2/3 way through, but still really enjoyed.

LOVE! Please record all Victoria Holt novels!!!

My sisters and I spent our teenage years reading Victoria Holt novels. It's been wonderful to rediscover 3 of them here on Audible.com. A quick Google check shows there are only 3 out of a total of 32(+/-) Victoria Holt novels in audio format on any of the audio book platforms. Audible.com please record all of them! They are timeless and and from the reviews here many of us would love to listen to all her books. On the Night of the Seventh Moon is one of my favorites! The narrator is wonderful!
