Not her best plot
- By Karen Boyd Heberling on 06-26-20
Publisher's Summary
All of England thinks Phillip Camden a monster - a man who deliberately caused the deaths of his squadron. But as nurse Arabelle Denler watches the so-dubbed "Black Heart" every day, she sees something far different: a hurting man desperate for mercy. And when their paths twist together and he declares himself her new protector, she realizes she has her own role to play in his healing.
Phillip Camden would have preferred to die that day with his squadron rather than be recruited to the Admiralty's codebreaking division. The threats he receives daily are no great surprise and, in his opinion, well deserved. What comes as a shock is the reborn desire to truly live that Arabelle inspires in him. But when an old acquaintance shows up and seems set on using him in a plot that has the codebreakers of Room 40 in a frenzy, new affections are put to the test.

History, mystery, romance - this book has it all!
This is the second book in the Codebreakers Series by Roseanna M. White and it’s wonderful to learn more about earlier characters and to meet new ones, both heroic and evil.
Set in England during WWI, life was much different than in the US and the class system was very evident, even in the military. Like other great books, there are several stories woven throughout which cleverly end in a very dramatic way! This is an excellent book and I highly recommend it.

Lovely, as usual, Ms. White.
I always find Roseanna M White's characters so easy to relate to, the stories engaging, and so much more than a love story. Faith, finding one's self, and a bit of adventure are familiar themes from this author by now along side a bit of romance. Thanks again for a thoroughly enjoyable tale.

Very enjoyable
I love this author. I especially like how she weaves characters from older books, even older series into her books. Action adventure and romance. Easy to get lost in the world she beautifully creates. This book was one of my favorites. The characters were so lovable. I love how she turns hearts toward the Lord. The stories of redemption and changed hearts and lives are so full of joy. Hopefully there be more.

10 stars
I would give it a 10 if the stars went that high! I don’t know why I loved this book so much! I loved the dialogue between characters and how Ara didn’t allow her past pains from helping others no matter what they did to her. I appreciated the continuing references to characters introduced in book one. Looking for book 3 now

Redemption of the heart
Roseanna M. White does not know how to write a terrible story and On Wings of Devotion only solidifies that notion.
The characters are well plotted and the story is gripping. Add to it the beautiful narration by Susan Lyons with her accent, and you have one distracting time.

Absolutely perfect
This is the first book I’ve read by Roseanna M. White and what a delight it was! Set during WW1 England it has intrigue, suspense, and romance all tied up in a well researched historical setting. The writing is beautiful, the pace perfect. The characters believable and likeable. The narrator does an amazing job. I would change nothing.

Smart
Thank you Roseanna White for writing smart characters. Inspirational Fiction writers are beginning to write more and more intellectually smart characters (with inspiring careers, etc.) but often, the characters are a bit emotionally and relationally slow. Just when I think, ‘Oh, here we go again…” Roseanna’s characters surprise me, and actually say or do smart things—like have real conversations, instead of waiting half the book to do so (a cheap trick by many authors, imo). They don’t keep lies from one another. They confront things. They talk things out. She lets the real issues, be the real issues. Her characters aren’t blind to one another. They don’t get to pull the wool over the others eyes. It’s much more like real life, among smart real people. As a result, her characters get to walk alongside one another, and face the real enemy/trauma, together. It’s rare to find writing like this, and stunningly refreshing.

On the Wings of Excellent, Inspired Writing
I loved The Number of Love, book one in The Codebreakers series. I found Roseanna M. White in Audible Escape. Now, I pre-order her books when possible.
On Wings of Devotion might be confusing if you don’t read book one first. Like most nurses, Arabella deeply cares for her patients, mostly the World War I soldier in Europe. I loved reading more about Room 40 and the Codebreakers. Arabella’s faith is believable and her romance with Cam is well-written.
Roseanna White's writing is rich in deep point of view and paints historical details in a fast action pace. I truly loved the way this author uses the term ... “the Lord” through out the book until that one moment when it’s “Jesus!”
Another small but important plot point is the extreme ability in White’s other books—photostatic memory/hearing, numbers, drawing, patterns. But in Wings of Devotion the greatest of these is revealed. Love lived out loud in kindness and generosity that comes from a heart overflowing with God’s love.
The Number of Love is still my favorite in the series but I’m excited to read the next White book.

Wonderful WWI Romance!
First, I loved Arabelle and Phillip!
I love the way Roseanna M. White writes history. It feels like a real-life story and I'm right there with the characters.
Phillip Camden is a complex man. Arabelle Denler is an intelligent, caring, generous woman. I loved how well they fit together.
Susan Lyons does a wonderful narration. I loved every moment of listening to this book!
