A surprisingly beautiful Love Story

Codes, secrets and the romantic heroism for which we all secretly long. Who says romance and Love can’t be scientifically & mathematically pleasing, that it can’t - make “sense”?

Characterization

Loved this book! I love how real the characters are. The emotions. Roseanna M White is amazing.

Read after the Shadows over England series!

I recommend reading the Shadows Over England series first, so you don’t suffer from any spoilers. I really enjoyed this continuation of Margot’s story and seeing previous characters even if only for a moment. I appreciate the humanity of this book, that the “enemy” wasn’t portrayed as pure evil but with his own story from the other side of the war. I also enjoyed the way Ms. White wrote Margot’s relationship with God and how He speaks to her in her language.

Narrators can make or break a book

I have read and listened to every book by Roseanna M. White and have loved all of them. This one, however, has been my least favorite. Not necessarily because of the storyline, but because of the narration.

I absolutely MISSED the voice that Liz Pearce brought to each story. She had a way of bringing the characters to life, giving them their own unique personality through the narration. One was distinguishable from the other. I didn't feel that this narrator did that.

Throughout the story, there were many times that it was hard to tell who was talking - Margot, Drake, Dot, Willa - they all sounded too much alike. And unfortunately, Drake's abuelo had a decidedly non-Spanish accent.

I am hoping that the narrator will be back to Liz Pearce with the next book in this series.

Excellent story telling, incredible!

Loved all of the symbolism, the theology, the characters, the writing. Probably the best book I've ever read!

What an unusual story! I absolutely loved it from beginning to end ! Susan Lyons is a remarkable narrator , well chosen for this book. I am looking forward to listen to more books by this author for sure .

Intriguing

For some reason, I had not read a book by Ms. White before this one. However, I have already purchased its sequel, and am anxious to begin. Roseanna White is an intelligent and gifted writer, who can weave an intriguing story that feels both plausible and warm. She creates mystery without hyperbole and develops a love story without exaggeration. The reader is drawn into the family of characters as naturally as forming a personal relationship in person. The story flows more smoothly and naturally, never feeling forced or contrived, than any I’ve read in a very long time. The tension created by the plot is comfortable while still keeping you completely engaged. I’m looking forward to the reading journey ahead as I enjoy the remainder of Ms. White’s books.

Surprizingly wonderful.

I've never been a fan of WWI as a time period. I hate to say it, but I felt it was almost boring compared to other times. Roseanna M. White and Susan Lyons have completely changed my perspective with this delightfully intriguing book. It flows beautifully, keeps true to the characters personalities and fascinates. I noticed it was book 1 and can't wait for the next and the next!
