Publisher's Summary
The brand-new Jack Reacher short story, published as an audio exclusive.
The tiny town of Naismith has nothing going for it - except the start of a wilderness trail through Maine's ancient forests. But one day the trail is suddenly closed by county police.
No reason is given. Rumours start - is there something in the woods that no one must see? That no one must even know about? Then Jack Reacher drifts into town. What does he make of the Do Not Enter tape strung between the trees?

NOT A THRILL
Would you try another book from Lee Child and/or Kerry Shale?
Yes. A great author hero and performer.
What was most disappointing about Lee Child’s story?
It was boring and lacked action and drama. The first Lee Child book that has disappointed me.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
The Performer tried to make something of a pot-boiler.
What character would you cut from Not a Drill?
If I was Lee Child I would not have published this book.
Any additional comments?
I am sorry to be negative as I am a great admirer of Lee Child.

someone who has never read a Reacher book
What could Lee Child have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Not to write it at al
What didn’t you like about Kerry Shale’s performance?
Too husky, and turned Reacher into a caricature
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Any additional comments?
Lee, please do NOT write any more Reacher short stories. They only lead to alienating your long term fans.

Warning: it’s a short story.
While the narration was not bad the story seems to be only getting started when it was over. This, it was not very interesting. An amount of build up is fair enough but I was simply expecting more story for my credit.

I have been ripped off for such a short story
the reader thought he was playing Clint Eastwood, the story was way below the standard I expect from Lee Child, and so short, I paid the same as a 12hr book!

Complacent author can't be bothered anymore
Would you try another book written by Lee Child or narrated by Kerry Shale?
Yes but only if it's a full length proper book
Would you ever listen to anything by Lee Child again?
Yes
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Resentment, bitterness and a feeling that I've been exploited.
Any additional comments?
This "novella" cost me over £8 and lasts just over an hour. The plot is idiotic and you are left with the feeling that the author can't be bothered to write any more now he's done a film deal with Hollywood. This falls well short of his normal standard and is significantly overpriced.

A good little story
By Lee Child's standards this is a very short story but intriguing nonetheless.
Reacher is his usual mysterious self, breaking the rules where necessary, and using a Sherlock Holmes-like sense of justice when needed.
I can't say too much without becoming a "Spoiler" but the story leaves one thinking about the suggestions it contains.
Kerry Shale reads the Reacher books when they are presented in an abridged format and it would be nice to hear his gravelly voice in a full length story.

Just a tiny short storey that took a whole credit like a book 30 times its length.
A bland but ok story, but just 2 chapters and over in about an hour. Not worth a credit. Wasn’t made clear it wasn’t a proper whole book. Also the narrator isn’t close to as good as the one that narrates the proper books.

I love Lee Child, gritty and uncompromising!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Absolutely, it is a brilliant book that includes the best features of Jack Reacher, the no nonsense muscle man of justice and fairness. He is like Judge Dredd but without the restraint.
What other book might you compare Not a Drill to, and why?
He is like an uncompromising James Bond, so the nearest Bond book in similarity would probably be live and let die, it is a taught thriller with action sequences in the right places, just like Bond.
What does Kerry Shale bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
Kerry Shale is the perfect hard guy impersonation of Reacher that I know. I know if it is a Shale book it will be exciting and emotive.
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Afraid to go into the woods? You should be!
Any additional comments?
Just a great book and what I have come to expect from Lee Child

Huge disappointment
If this book wasn’t for you, who do you think might enjoy it more?
Someone with an extremely short attention span - it only lasts 73 minutes !!!!!
What will your next listen be?
Not another one of these.
What didn’t you like about Kerry Shale’s performance?
Too short!
You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?
No
Any additional comments?
Should not be listed along with full-length books. I feel cheated and hugely disappointed in Audible/Amazon. Trust is so easily broken!

Don't Waste Your Credit
I am an avid fan of Lee Child & Jack Reacher books. I have them all. This one is a waste of the credit or $ whichever way you buy it. The narration is atrocious, Kerry Shale makes the characters sound like a bunch of boofheads and you just can't relate to the character. I know its a short story so by its nature, you don't get to know the characters in detail. However if it hadn't been a short story I would have stopped listening. Story line was ok (for a short story) but hey, spend your money on something else.
