GOOD MORNING AMERICA BOOK CLUB PICK • The #1 New York Times bestselling author of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder—now a hit Netflix series—returns with her first novel for adults: an “irresistible” (The Washington Post) thriller about a young woman trying to solve her own murder, “full of the writer’s signature twists and turns” (People).

“This truly unique premise snowballs into a roller-coaster ride of page-turning suspense and knock-out twists!”—Freida McFadden, author of The Housemaid

In seven days, Jet Mason will be dead.

Jet is the daughter of one of the wealthiest families in Woodstock, Vermont. Twenty-seven years old and back home, she’s still waiting for her life to begin. I’ll do it later, she always says. She has time.

Until Halloween night, when she is violently attacked by an unseen intruder, suffering a catastrophic head injury. Doctors are certain that within a week, the injury will trigger a fatal aneurysm. To her parents’ dismay, Jet rejects an extremely risky operation in order to guarantee herself at least a few more days.

Jet never thought of herself as having enemies. But now, in the one week she has left, she looks at everyone in a new light: her family, her former best friend turned sister-in-law, her ex-boyfriend.

As her condition deteriorates, she reconnects with her childhood friend Billy, the only one willing to help her. With Billy at her side, she’s absolutely determined to finally finish something:

Jet is going to solve her own murder.

The story was good—the narration was not—with this the interpretation I did not like any of the characters, and most of the characters were given a squeaky, broken childish voice that was unbearable.

Fun story

I enjoy Holly Jackson’s writing style and storytelling. This one didn’t hit for me though. The twist wasn’t that jaw-dropping and the main character was a bit simplistic. It wasn’t a DNF for me though, as I still wanted to know how it all comes together for the ending.

Not bad, not great

This audiobook was amazing and hard to believe it was only one narrator! Get voice distinctions and so much emotion I loved it!

How well the narrator did all the characters

Listen, this was a fun thriller. The main character was not very likable at first, but she grows on you. I would’ve liked a little more closure with some things, but overall, a good read.

omg. Another winner from Holly Jackson. I was addicted from the start, couldn’t stop listening, and completely shocked by the ending.

I will never not recommend this book.

I really like this authors writing style in her ya books, and was excited for this “adult” one. The story was good! I was trying to figure things out as things unfolded and I wanted to know what happened next. Unfortunately the voices used by the narrator made everyone sound like snotty teenagers. She is clearly a talented voice actress- her inflections were great, pacing was great, she became the characters and had a good rhythm… unfortunately the voices she chose all sounded like children and I felt like I was listening to a ya or even middle reader book. The main character was immature from the get go, just complaining about everything and her voice sounded like a petulant 15 year old. Then the narration for her 28 year old childhood friend made it sound like he was 10 years old. It made it difficult to envision them as adults. The other characters just sounded whiny or bratty.

I did make it to the end because I liked the story, but I was literally cringing at Danny’s voice by the last few hours. Definitely read it yourself and avoid the audio version!

Good mystery, hard to listen to.

I couldn’t stand the narrator voice for the different characters and it really pulled me out of the story. Good book though- moves slower in the beginning and then speeds up quick at the end. It had a good twist.

4.5 stars

A unique twist on the classic "who-dunnit" mystery where the victim actually has to try to solve their own murder! Characters are realistic, especially our main narrator, Jet, who is an extremely flawed heroine. It was an engaging and entertaining story, and the plot progresses nicely. It didn't end how I expected, but I appreciate how it wrapped up. I don't want to say too much to give anything away; you'll just have to read it for yourself!

Only negative was the narrator voicing "Billy". She made him sound like a little 6 year old boy instead of a 28 year old, 6'2" man. I had to continuously remind myself that he wasn't a child... It took me out of the story at times, but other that, the narration was great.

Wonderfully entertaining murder mystery

The creativity and funny dynamic between the characters Jet and Billy.I loved finding myself giggling at the 2 of them

Funny and mysterious

HORRENDOUS NARRATION! Who let this lady into a recording booth? why do all her women sound like some. in hysterics who need a fainting couch and her men like 90-year old chain smoking grandmas? Incredibly unpleasant and distracting! the story was fun but was too rushed at the end and some side mysteries, even though resolved, did not get the necessary closure. also, the writing style was very much YA even though this was supposed to be her adult fiction debut.
