Publisher's summary

Geek girl Lexi Carmichael thought getting engaged would mean calmer days ahead. But when Slash's past brings up more questions than answers, she's not going to let anything - or anyone - drive them apart.

Getting engaged is supposed to be a fun, exciting time in a girl's life. But things are never that easy for Slash and me. Instead, someone is threatening to expose Slash's past - a past so secret, even I know very little about it.

Before I can get used the weight of Nonna's antique ring on my finger, he's on his way to Rome...and we're farther apart than we've ever been. Still, I have no intention of sitting at home and letting him take on the Vatican by himself.

With a little expert-level hacking, I learn Slash is keeping secrets from me. Big ones. Dangerous ones. In fact, the more I dig into Slash's past, the more I discover things about him I never knew - things that eventually pit us against each other.

From Rome to the Amalfi coast to the highest levels of the Vatican, we both race to discover the truth. No matter what I find, we're officially a team now, so I won't let him face this alone. Even if I don't know if our relationship can survive it.

great book - lousy performance

I love Lexi! I love the books and this is one of my favorite series. This book is just as good, if not better. Lexi is growing and with that the book changed a bit, but it was a great change. Thankfully, the author left in those humorous, laugh out loud, moments, which is one of my favorite things about the books. That's my review of the book itself. The performance, though, was awful! I've never been too fond of Kristin's version of Lexi - she makes her too whiney - but since it's hard for me to read these days, I would listen anyway. This book, though, was so awful, I couldn't make it past the first two chapters. I gave up and just read the book. It sounded like Kristin was having some kind of trouble with her mouth - like she was missing some teeth or trying to get used to false teeth. Whatever her problem is (I hope she's well), the powers that be should have waited until Kristin was better or gotten someone else to narrate the book. I highly suggest anyone considering buying this book to sample it first and see if you can handle this. I wish I would have sampled first.

What’s wrong with the narrator????

The narrator, who has been great in all of the last books, sounds like she has marbles in her mouth. It is so distracting!! I can’t believe they allowed her to record the book this way.

Before you buy it - listen to the sample.

I love the series and look forward to each new book. Because I like it so much I’m getting through it. But the narration is so hard to overlook.

Please change this in the next book or re- record it.

Awesome.....but

I love this story just as much as I love all the other Lexi Carmichael mysteries. My one and only complaint is that for some reason the narrator is really breathy in this book. I can't stand that I can hear her breathing. All the other books in this series you don't hear this. All in all love the book, keep them coming.

Narration

I was hoping they would re-record but noooo.....I tried hearing this audio book again but too painful....have not been able to finish it.

Why does the narrator sound like she has a lisp. It was distracting...I have enjoyed Julie Moffett Lexi series, but the narration!! To bad, I had enjoyed past narration.

Difficulty with Narrator

I love this series, but the narrator isn't right for Lexi. I'm sorry to say, its very difficult to listen to this narrator change Lexi's character into a shrill nag. I wouldn't put up with this tyrant in real life so why should I spend my leisure time enduring her vocal rants and raves, especially toward Slash. I don't think Slash's character would put up with it as well.

I don't like to post negative reviews, but it also sounds like the narrator just got new braces. I would really love to hear this series done by a really good narrator and include alot more about hacking! Sorry for the bad news.

Hard Time Getting Past the Narrator

I have loved each of the prior books with this narrator, but the other reviews are spot on, she sounds like her mouth is swollen, with a lisp and/or its full of marbles. Maybe if I hadn't heard all of the other books and loved them, I wouldn't have as much of a problem, but I keep hoping that whatever happened to the narration will get better as the book continues. I love this series and the author, but its taking a lot of patience to get through this audio book.

Narration

I love all the Lexi Carmichael books. However this time it sounds like the narrator just got brand new braces and is suffering through the narration. Very hard to listen to the narrator but the plot is good.

loved the story but not the performance

I have loved every audio book version of Julie Moffitt's books, except this one. It sounds like Kristen Watson Heintz has recently had her tounge peirced. it was so distracting I was unable to finish the story in one day like I normally do. I could only listen to one or 2 chapters at a time before I couldn't take it anymore.

Mysteries solved - New mysteries revealed

Fun read. Great development of their relationship. Good to see her LBC is still following her. Nonna is still a favorite and she and Lexi make a good team.
Keep them coming.

Listen to sample before buying

Make sure you read the Audible.com reviews as unfortunately the narration is really annoying. It is the same narrator as in previous books but I think she may have recently got false teeth.
Listen to the sample first to see if you can bear it but I am finding it really hard going.
Otherwise the story is up to the usual high standard.
