Publisher's summary

Once upon a time, there was a girl who dressed up and went to a big party at the palace. When she was there, she met a prince. They danced and fell in love....

Damn good line. Too bad I don’t believe a word of it anymore.

My name is Claire Montgomery, and I’m not a princess. I’m a fighter. I worked hard to earn my place on the emergency image repair team for one of the biggest public relations companies in the country. We’ve been called to the renowned Chicago headquarters of Stone Global Corporation, where it’s our job to clean up a heap of the Stone family’s filthiest laundry. Our success will be the biggest victory of my career. I’m on my game. I’m ready.

Why doesn’t ready include a contingency plan for Killian Stone?

Awful Narration

I COULD NOT TAKE THE FEMALE NARRATOR. She Whispered through entire story And add her monotone voice, I was ready to rip my hair out. BEYOND AWFUL

Just not sure 🤔

Okay, here we go. Devon Grace killed this audiobook for me, and I don’t mean killed in a good way. Her complete whisper through sex scenes, through confrontations, through almost the whole thing just did not work for me. I couldn’t enjoy the story for that purpose. Chances are, because of her poor performance I won’t listen to the rest of the series. Jason Clarke pull the stars for overall up but he didn’t get as much sound-time as I would have liked.

The story wasn’t what I was looking for and let’s be honest, since AE is gone, finding something that fits my tastes on AP are very low indeed.

Such charm...

This book was slow in a languid sexy sort of way, a very very good way indeed! With by far some of the best narration ever I found myself drowning in the oozing goodness of their performance. With a story so very yummy I truly enjoyed every moment. I am rather disappointed that it’s a cliffhanger as far as the HEA is concerned... but that too is okay since there is another book to sink into.

So sexy, do steamy rip roaring hot....

Worth it!

even Jason Clarke couldn't save this

Yikes! You know when you want to fast forward through all the "steamy" scenes it's not gonna be good. I just could not relate to the characters even a little. I thought they were 2 dimensional and sort of annoying. I wasn't sure if it was the writing or the female narrator's voice, but she grated on my nerves.. Since I also thought the steamy scenes were awful, I could not finish.

Full of secrets. Great narration

The first book in the Secrets of Stone series and it is off to a good start. If this series is not on your TBR list then I suggest that you add it. This was a fast paced book, full of secrets; a fun and quirky take on Cinderella.
From the start I was entranced by Killian Stone and I was excited to see who the woman who would capture and hold his attention would be; Claire Montgomery did not disappoint.
Claire is a member of a PR team that has been called in to clean up the image of Stone Global Corporation. She has her own secrets, ones that she is determined will not be exposed.
Claire finds herself attracted to Killian and when you throw in the fact that Killian is enthralled with Claire, complications are sure to arise. Killian too has his secrets which he is bound and determined to keep, but all is not as it seems, despite the confident persona that Killian shows the world.
No Prince Charming is smoking hot and certainly delivers on the sizzle.Told in dual POV’s it will spark your interest and keep you entertained. Both Ms.Payne and Ms. Blue obviously work well together as it was impossible to determine who wrote what.

Could have been better

This book started out fine but dang Claire for being “smart?” She came off really stupid! How old is she? 20? The constant crying for no reason at all was so freakin annoying... For someone in PR she sure enjoyed crowds before she got herself “together.” I truly wish there were real problems instead of her conjuring up problems... a supposed heroine who doesn’t know her back from front like a silly teenager... I started to wish Killian actually left her, I did like his character... she just came off more annoying than it was worth.

This book could have been so much better IF the writer made Claire more realistic and not a dumb 20 something trapped in a mind of a silly teenage girl who got lucky to snag a heart of a nice guy 🙄

If you are looking for constant crying, a girl who isn’t able to even enjoy the simplest carnal pleasures without talking to herself the whole time until Killian asks her to call his name? I mean Margeaux came off more mature even though she’s the villain and calculating.

I don’t know... I’m usually open to HEA but with a better developed story. This story really does have good bones but the childish behavior, the constant crying and her eyes "stinging" all the time? I was over it and ready to give up.

I don’t know how much the book was but not worth the credit.

Why the whispering?

The storyline was good but could have been better if Claire wasn’t so, stupid.
The whispers didn’t help.

NARRATION HELL!

Oh dear lord, why oh whyyyyy is the female narrator whispering?! It completely throws off the mood or tone of the situation. It's constant. I don't understand where she came up with the thought that it would be a great idea to make Claire sound like a creep! Jason Clarke, who is my absolutely favorite narrator, couldn't even save this. And there was enough of him in this.

Huge disappointment

The female narrator ruined the experience completely. She tried way too hard to sound sexy ALL the time. It was distracting and annoying. She whispered the whole time, for every character. Jason Clarke was amazing as usual. the story was very spotty at best. there was no depth. Holes everywhere and not enough time spent building backgrounds and allowing us to get to know the characters. I was not impressed. If Devon Grace is the female narrator i think i will skip the listen.
