In “No Nonsense Spirituality,” author and philosopher, Britt Hartley offers a groundbreaking exploration that marries the rigor of rational inquiry with the depths of human spirituality. Best of all? No faith in the unbelievable is required.

Drawing from the wellsprings of science, philosophy, religion, and psychology, this illuminating work charts a course for those who seek a meaningful life without dogma or woo. Hartley draws on her work as an atheist spiritual director to provide practical guidelines for navigating a secular approach to ritual, morality, awe, transcendence, wisdom, community, intuition, connection, and meaning that can withstand the harsh truths of reality.

With wisdom gleaned from the best of rationalism and the timeless insights of religion, “No Nonsense Spirituality” offers pathways to the good life that honor the complexity of the human experience. Engaging, thought-provoking, and deeply resonant, this book invites readers to explore a new understanding of what it means to live the good life in the middle of a culture that ranges from cold skepticism to the unhealthy truth claims of religion and pseudoscience that cannot stand up to modern sensibilities.

Brittney is so relatable, honest, and balanced. I love the reflection questions at the end of each chapter, which help you dive deeper into your own values, journey, and blind spots. For those who value spirituality but want to choose their own beliefs (or no beliefs at all), this book offers great practical advice and insights.

Excellent guide when leaving a high demand religion

I’ve been watching Bree’s TikTok and decided to get her book. I recently have experienced an ego death and had my eyes opened to what I’ve missed my whole life with the western religions. So I’ve been doing a lot of exploring in different avenues and Bree’s vast knowledge really helped bring clarity to concepts like the divine feminine and masculine, Carl Jung and even the Occult concepts. It was a great book and life story. It was odd but at the end she says I give you hug and swear I felt a small embrace.

Great life story and explanation on different religions

An important starting point to secular seekers

The author's story and content is extraordinary, and worth the pain of the digital narration. Having been familiar with her speaking style from social media this would have been so much better had the author narrated. So many in my mind are harmed rather than helped by religious doctrine that I hope the messages in her book helps spread the logic and reason we so desperately need today.

Great story and content

No Nonsense Spirituality by Britt Hartley is a refreshing take on secular spirituality, offering practical tools for those seeking meaning without supernatural beliefs. Drawing from her ex-Mormon background and expertise as an atheist spiritual director, Hartley blends science, philosophy, and psychology to guide readers toward awe, ritual, and purpose. The book’s strength lies in its actionable advice—think secular rituals, embracing feminine wisdom, and crafting personal narratives—making spirituality accessible and grounded.

Thank you Britt for sharing your knowledge and insight in this area. I too, deconstructed the Mormon faith. I luckily found Buddhism to catch me but I fell down the nihilistic hole anyway and you helped me out of it!

This book helped me out of deep nihilism.

To me the best media makes me want to be a better person. For me this book embodies that to the highest degree.

I will say the automated narrator makes the text feel a little cold, but I can also appreciate that an automated narrator probably makes the book cheaper and therefore accessible to more people.

I am so grateful for this book.

Honest and Compassionate
