Acerca de esta escucha

Bible scholar and popular TikToker Dan McClellan confronts misconceptions about the Bible. This program is read by the author.

The Bible is the world’s most influential book, but do we really know what it says? Every day across social media and in homes, businesses, and public spaces, people try to cut debate short by claiming that "the Bible says so!" However, they commonly disagree about what it actually does and doesn't say, particularly when it comes to socially significant issues. For instance, does the Bible say we should be on the lookout for an antichrist associated with the number 666? Does it say women shouldn’t wear revealing clothing? Does it say it’s okay to hit your kids?

In The Bible Say So, Dan McClellan leverages his popular "data over dogma" approach, and his years of experience in the academy and on social media, to lay out in clear and accessible ways what the data indicate the Bible does and doesn't say about issues ranging from homosexuality, abortion, and slavery to monotheism, inspiration, and even God's wife. Smart, accessible, and informative, The Bible Says So is an invaluable resource for our fractious times.

"Smart and historically grounded... Combining fine-grained textual analysis with enlightening historical context, this is a valuable resource."—Publishers Weekly

Already loving it!

I’ve been looking forward to this book for a while. I was especially excited when I found out that Dan McClellan would be narrating the book himself. I’m a few chapters in so far. The narration and audio quality is excellent! I appreciate Dan’s ability to present scholarship for a wider audience, and for his respectful and logical approaches in his arguments. Looking forward to finishing the book and finishing out my review then.

It’s a lot but so worth it

I really enjoyed listening to this audio book, but I wish I had the physical copy to follow along and mark up. Maybe it’s a hold over from devotionals, but because the book dives in to meaty subjects and cites its sources I wish I had a way to note it and review later. Guess I’ll have to also purchase the physical copy and follow along again!

A must read

Dan McClellan breaks down some of the biggest lies and half-truths people tell about what is said in the Bible. This is a great guide to help learn more about what the Bible actually says. Dan has a very approachable writing style that makes a difficult subject easily digestible. Best book of 2025

A Beacon of Critical Thinking & Compassionate Scholarship

If you don't follow Dan McClellan on social media, you are missing out. There, and in this well-written book, Dan helps us understand the rhetorical and historical meaning within the world's most read text. He effectively imparts his knowledge of ancient language and culture, sharing his (deep) scholarly understanding of the Bible. Dan frames the books of the Bible in their proper historical and cultural contexts, without denigrating or casting aspersions on organized religion or faith. Instead, he casts light on those areas most in need of clarification, where modern dogmas and identity politics have overtaken the intent of the Bible's original authors. Highly recommend!

Definitely data over dogma here

I appreciate Dan’s clear articulation and obvious love of Sacred Scripture as well as his tenacious approach to presenting the data over dogma. The only thing I enjoy more than wrestling with the Sacred Jewish and Christian Scriptures, is hearing someone else with more expertise, experience and passion share their perspectives. I recommend this book to everyone who loves the Bible and doesn’t mind being challenged and stretched.

If you have a weak mind and lack the capacity to learn (or have an unteachable spirit) this book is not for you. That being said I think everyone should give it a listen.
