Payton

Running away from home at 17 wasn't easy. Let's face it, though, nothing before or in the ten years since has ever been easy for me. And I'm doing okay—sorta. I just need to keep scraping by, living under the radar. Staying out of people's way, off people's minds.

Nero

The first time I took a man's life, I knew there'd be no going back, no normal existence in the cards for me. Instead of walking away, I climbed a mountain of bodies and created my own destiny by forming The Alliance. And I was fine with that, content enough to carry on.

Until I stepped through those open doors, and into her life.

I should've walked away. Should've gone right back out the door I came through. But I didn't. And now her life is in danger. That's the thing about being a bad man. I'll happily paint the streets red to protect what's mine.

And Payton is mine. Whether she knows it or not.

Payton and Nero

This book was so good! I really enjoy Ms. Tilly's writing style. Nero became obsessed with Payton after he enters her apartment through her patio door while hiding from the police. After that initial meeting, it seems he cannot stay away from her. When he learns what she has gone through, he became very possessive and acts on it, unbeknownst to her. At times, Payton could be annoying and did not take what Nero said about her safety seriously. A high price was paid when an attack came from one of Nero's enemies which resulted in several deaths. Nero would burn the earth for her. It was interesting how Nero and King started the Alliance and how they operate. I am looking forward to the next book in the series, King. Jack Calihan and Chloe Ryan did a great job with the narration.

Addictive story and characters

Nero was an absolutely fantastic alpha softie. I love how he loved Payton and was so protectively possessive of her. I also really appreciated that it didn’t take him forever to accept his feelings for her and tell her. It drives me bonkers when characters know they’re in love with each other and take forever to admit it. Both Payton and Nero fought it for a while but have in pretty quickly making it a much more enjoyable read for me. Highly recommend!

Little steamy not to much and has a decent plot definitely worth reading. You won’t be disappointed

I loved Nero!

I am a huge fan of red flag, morally grey, OTT MMCs. Nero did not disappoint and I felt like this was a great use of my credit.

The narrators did such a phenomenal job bringing these characters to life. Nero and Payton’s red flag Meet-Cute is one of my favorite scenes and I loved listening to it. Nero and King together have a very funny relationship (especially considering they are mobsters) and I loved Jack’s voices for them. Chloe really brought Payton to life for me. Her past is heartbreaking and the way Nero went after Arthur was a very satisfying scene.

There are some very spicy scenes and I admit they made me blush sitting in traffic listening to them! Yes Nero is a walking red flag but he deeply cares for Payton and is very sweet and patient with her (well, for the most part haha) When he came home with Toto my heart actually melted.

Why didn’t anyone tell me how adorable this book was?! This book had me giggling and kicking my feet in joy. Don’t get me wrong, this was definitely a dark romance with a morally grey, OTT, possessive MMC who would destroy anyone who so much as looks as his love wrong. But it was so darn cute!!

I love Nero so much. For a cold and emotionless mafia boss, he sure fell hard and fast for Payton. His obsession with her made him lose all sense and do the most ridiculous things. Him drinking that latte and sniffing the cup hoping to smell her had me giggling like a fool. Who does that?

Poor Peyton had no idea what she was getting herself into when she left her balcony door open for Nero. I did like her but I felt like she was surprisingly naive for someone who has survived all she had.

Jack Calihan was amazing as Nero. He has narrated some of my favorite books and I can always rely on him giving a great performance. He gets 5 well deserved stars.

I was enjoying Chloe Ryan’s performance as Peyton until I realised she does a deep inhale after every line. Once I noticed it, I couldn’t un-notice it and it really pulled me out of the story. I was planning on listening to the whole series on audiobook but now I’m second guessing that.
