Acerca de esta escucha
While we’ve made progress on social equity, some workplaces still don’t operate in the most inclusive ways. And when bias and discrimination, whether explicit or implicit, go unresolved, they disrupt not just our health and productivity, but that of our entire organization.
Navigating Bias at Work is designed to help you work and thrive in places where bias runs rampant. Led by Meara Habashi, an instructor with a wealth of experience studying and applying the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion, this Audible Original is a compassionate resource for employees on all rungs of the corporate ladder searching for thoughtful, constructive ways to handle the reality of bias.
These lectures offer practical skills—rooted in cutting-edge psychological research and sociological models—that will empower you when bias shows up in your workplace. You’ll learn how to identify easy-to-miss biases; how to stop yourself from being biased toward others; how to respond when you find yourself the victim of bias; how to be the best ally and advocate for coworkers who can’t confront bias on their own; and much more.
It can be exhausting to successfully navigate situations of workplace bias. This Audible Original will equip you for the struggle.

Historia
On the death of France's most glorious king, Louis XIV, in 1715, few people benefited from the shift in power more than the intriguing financial genius from Edinburgh, John Law. Law had proposed to the English monarch that a bank be established to issue paper money with the credit based on the value of land. But Queen Anne was not about to take advice from a gambler and felon. So, in exile in Paris, he convinced the bankrupt court of Louis XV of the value of his idea.

The proliferation of social media platforms and our increasing reliance on the internet for connection and communication has caused the line between the “real” world and the online world to blur. So much of our lives can be impacted by online interactions—and not all those interactions are positive. Why does the internet seem to encourage bad behavior from some users? Why do we feel we need to share so much of our private lives with the online world? Is screen time really as addictive as the headlines say?

Great examples of confronting microagressions!
As a privileged white female, the examples for confronting microagressions were the most helpful. Sure, there was a lot of information I already knew, but I also have college degrees and intentionally choose opportunities for learning of others' lived experiences. Regardless, I found this book to be helpful. Some of the examples she shared are daily occurrences, even outside of work, and I encourage others to continue listening to/reading books like this because I am certain you will retain something new that will be helpful. Being "not racist" isn't good enough--be Anti-Racist!

Practical and Accessible
Dr. Habashi's book is a fantastic and easy-to-understand guide. It delivers exactly what is promised in the title. The first chapter explains the differences between concepts like equality versus equity in practical examples, then the book moves on to identifying your own biases and how to address them. Dr. Habashi talks briefly about her own life in a way that is endearing, but her background as a psychology professor and scholar ensures confidence in her expertise. This is the ideal guidebook for anyone who sincerely wants to create a more inclusive workplace.
