NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • In the final book in The Iron Druid Chronicles, two-thousand-year-old Druid Atticus O’Sullivan confronts the Norse gods Loki and Hel to stop the impending apocalypse, while Granuaile and Owen work to secure the future of Druidry.

“[Kevin] Hearne draws his Iron Druid Chronicles to a pitch-perfect close in this dizzy, world-hopping adventure. But amidst the battles and bargaining that go into saving the world, there is also an enormous amount of heart.”—RT Book Reviews

Unchained from fate, the Norse gods Loki and Hel are ready to unleash Ragnarok, a.k.a. the Apocalypse, upon the earth. They’ve made allies on the darker side of many pantheons, and there’s a globe-spanning battle brewing that ancient Druid Atticus O’Sullivan will be hardpressed to survive, much less win.

Granuaile MacTiernan must join immortals Sun Wukong and Erlang Shen in a fight against the Yama Kings in Taiwan, and she discovers that the stakes are much higher than she thought.

Meanwhile, Archdruid Owen Kennedy must put out both literal and metaphorical fires from Bavaria to Peru to keep the world safe for his apprentices and the future of Druidry.

And Atticus recruits the aid of a tyromancer, an Indian witch, and a trickster god in hopes that they’ll give him just enough leverage to both save Gaia and see another sunrise. There is a hound named Oberon who deserves a snack, after all.

Reseñas de la Crítica

Praise for The Iron Druid Chronicles

“[Kevin] Hearne is a terrific storyteller with a great snarky wit. . . . Neil Gaiman’s American Gods meets Jim Butcher’s Harry Dresden.”SFFWorld

“[The Iron Druid books] are clever, fast-paced and a good escape.”Boing Boing

“Hearne understands the two main necessities of good fantasy stories: for all the wisecracks and action, he never loses sight of delivering a sense of wonder to his readers, and he understands that magic use always comes with a price. Highly recommended.”The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction

“Superb . . . plenty of quips and zap-pow-bang fighting.”Publishers Weekly (starred review)

“Celtic mythology and an ancient Druid with modern attitude mix it up in the Arizona desert in this witty new fantasy series.”—Kelly Meding, author of Chimera

“[Atticus is] a strong modern hero with a long history and the wit to survive in the twenty-first century. . . . A snappy narrative voice . . . a savvy urban fantasy adventure.”Library Journal

“A page-turning and often laugh-out-loud funny caper through a mix of the modern and the mythic.”—Ari Marmell, author of The Warlord’s Legacy

“Outrageously fun.”The Plain Dealer

“Kevin Hearne breathes new life into old myths, creating a world both eerily familiar and startlingly original.”—Nicole Peeler, author of Tempest Rising

Too preachy. And, I'm not entirely sure what "sins" he has to atone for given how badly all the other characters he deals with act.

Earlier books were better

This was a great way to finish off my favorite series. .... ..... I want to talk about it... I can’t.... no spoilers. It was really good. Given that this is very likely my favorite series, I don’t feel so bad saying that this wasn’t my favorite book in the series. Still, it hit all the things I was looking for. It called back to times passed and blazed a new story moving forward. It offered a fairly realistic and entirely satisfying ending.

Three not really but almost spoilers:

There was one “No! DAMMIT NO!”
There were several “HA!”
And there was one *muppet arm flail with excitement*

I hope that didn’t ruin it for you.

A nice finish

This is a top 3 favorite series for me, so the end of Atticus' story is bittersweet to say the least. SPOILER ALERT***************Defeating Loki and stopping Ragnarök didn't really seam that difficult. Was definitely not a fan of the Norse pantheon in this one. They hid in cloud, let everyone fight the good fight, then gang up on Atticus and lop off his arm, all the while everyone else merely lets it all play out. Owens story plays out nicely and I enjoyed his part. To be honest, I was fine with most of the book with the exception of piling on Atticus, other than Granuaile leaving him (a good thing, nobody needs the PC police around). He started the series with a 3 vs. 1 faeries, it ended with him and Oberon, a man and his dog.

Lightly scourged

all I can say is that this story ended in a way that simultaneously granted finality and left you wanting more. it is with a heavy heart that I say goodbye to Atticus O'Sullivan and company after 9 amazing stories. while Kevin Hearne may not have given his cherished protagonist it is with a grudging acceptance that I admit that he did give him what he needed. so thank you Mr. Hearne. it's been a wild ride

a beautiful end to a beautiful story

I thoroughly enjoyed everything about this book one thing in particular stands out to me and that's one thing can be summed up with one word.......... sloth.

My heart Hurts With Joy

I have listened to of the Iron Druid Chronicles and I have to say this was the worst. Preachy and sanctimonious only begin to state how I feel about this novel. So much of the author's liberal bias bled through. It is as if he lost interest in his characters and lost touch with his readers.

All and all, I am glad he has put this series to rest. What started out as a great escape into fantasy turned into a bitter stroll through a social justice warriors diary.

The only reason I recommend this book at all is that it is the last book of the series.

Disappointment

I can only hope there will be more...

I only started with these books in the past month, and made it through all of them in 27 days. I look forward to re-listening again in the coming years. This story is immersive and immense.

I had a harder time with this book. Too many of my favorites passing, and things ending. Great book but sad.

Outstanding close to an outstanding series. I only wish I could contribute to the literary world with half as good a story! Thank you!

gotta love SloMo

This series is absolutely outstanding. The narration is excellent. I wasn't keeping track of the number of books in the series and I was a bit caught off guard, realizing this was the last book. It felt abrupt and like there was unfinished business. I can't help but think this deserved either an additional book or a different ending that was more final. If I hadn't been looking for the next book in the series, I wouldn't have known the series had ended.

.... now for the potential spoilers piece.

I thought there was an excessive amount of blame shoveled on Atticus' shoulders at the end... and while it may have been partially deserved, I'm not sure the ending left me feeling that there was a conclusion or that the character had grown from the experience. The lack of more books may imply growth, but he seemed like a good man in the first book and by the last, he's being blamed for the rain falling in the wrong direction by a lot of folks who had a big role in his bad decisions. It felt like this book was, "It's all Atticus' fault, everyone tells him 'go kill yourself,' he says no, the end."

Or maybe I'm just really frustrated because I grew to really love Atticus and I'm being defensive for him.

Outstanding series.
