#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

CELEBRATING THE 20th ANNIVERSARY WITH A NEW FOREWORD BY THE AUTHOR

Wounded in the line of duty, NYPD homicide detective John Corey convalesces in the Long Island township of Southold, home to farmers, fishermen -- and at least one killer. Tom and Judy Gordon, a young, attractive couple Corey knows, have been found on their patio, each with a bullet in the head. The local police chief, Sylvester Maxwell, wants Corey's big-city expertise, but Maxwell gets more than he bargained for.

John Corey doesn't like mysteries, which is why he likes to solve them. His investigations lead him into the lore, legends, and ancient secrets of northern Long Island -- more deadly and more dangerous than he could ever have imagined. During his journey of discovery, he meets two remarkable women, Detective Beth Penrose and Mayflower descendant Emma Whitestone, both of whom change his life irrevocably. Ultimately, through his understanding of the murders, John Corey comes to understand himself.

Fast-paced and atmospheric, marked by entrancing characters, incandescent storytelling, and brilliant comic touches, Plum Island is Nelson DeMille at his thrill-inducing best.

I just finished listening to this book and by the last few hours I really felt like it was just too much. not believable and far fetched.

I do still love Scott Brick. Best narrator

this book jumped the shark

Nelson Demille is a great story teller. John Corey has a smart ass sense of humor that I really like. Scott Brick makes all the characters come alive, male or female.

John Corey is really cool

I had no real idea what to expect when coming across this book. I found this during a cursory search of Audible for a same character series of mystery novels with a strong protagonist. After several swings, misses & returns of serial character novels by the likes of Baldacci, Koontz & Mary Higgins Clark (along with non-Robicheux character series’ by James Lee Burke & non-Bosch/Ballard series books by Connelly). I was not only pleasantly surprised by how quickly this epic length novel and character John Corey grabbed me but kept my attention practically throughout the entire reading. Start to finish it took me just 33 hours to complete. Scott Brick has never let me down. I just completed a stand-alone novel he performed by Harlan Coben and couldn’t believe it was the same person. Lastly, this novel is over 20 years old and with only a few minor clues you’d easily believe it was written present-day (only a few dated cell phone references hint to its era). It’s as close to timeless an older novel I’ve ever read. With my review and recommendation completed (only did the rapid acceleration and decelerations cost it a perfect review) I’m headed back to the Audible homepage to buy the next John Corey novel. It will be quite the feat to match this introductory installment. Try it. You shall not be disappointed

First DeMille/Corey book but not my last

I liked the story but at times it felt like the author was adding length to the book without substance. A great deal of time is spent convincing the reader that John Corey is a man's man. We get it, move on to the suspense.

it was a good book

The story is good, But the main character is TERRIFIC! Well done performance by Mr.Brick. I loved my time on the North Fork of LI w/ Mr. DeMille's imagination!!!

Great summer read

Storyline kept me intrigued.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Between super viruses and Captain Kidd it kept you guessing.

Easy to understand.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, not for 19 hrs

Plum Island a little far fetched

Okay story, but was way too long. Too many explanations of insignificant scenarios and such.

Way Too Long...

This book was narrated brilliantly, right down to the NY accent. I had read the story years ago and liked it and enjoyed it as much as an audio.

The narrator portrayed the main character perfectl

Loved all the characters and story line. Great to enjoy a no- nonsense murder mystery that presents the clues honestly and in the experience of a great, witty main character.

Good, no-nonsense who done it

The pace of the story and mystery kept me engaged, and the high number of jokes, puns, and snide remarks kept me chuckling.

Great storyline and humorous
