Acerca de esta escucha

Welcome to the Custer Hill Club, a men's club, set in a luxurious hunting lodge, whose members include America's powerful business leaders, military men, and government officials. The club is a place to relax with old friends, but one fall weekend, the club's Executive Board gathers to talk about 9/11 and finalize a retaliation plan, known by a code name: Wild Fire.

That weekend, a member of the Federal Anti-Terrorist Task Force is found dead. It's up to Detective John Corey and his wife, FBI Agent Kate Mayfield, to unravel a terrifying plot that starts with the Custer Hill Club and ends with American cities locked in the crosshairs of a nuclear device. Corey and Mayfield are the only ones who can prevent global chaos from being unleashed.

This was a book I just couldn't put down, not too surprising considering the author was Nelson DeMille and the narrator was Scott Brick, a great combination! The plot centers on an isolated men's only club called the "Custer Hill Club". A retired FBI detective and his wife try to figure out what happened to another agent who had been doing surveillaince on the Custer Hill Club. They uncover the existence of a couple of "suitcase nukes" and eventually piece together an awful plot which they work very hard to stop. Do they or don't they? You'll have to listen to the book to its conclusion to find out. A great on-the-edge-of-your-seat listen that may keep you awake at night past your normal bedtime.

Conspiracy Theory Extraordinaire

I find the idea of "Wild Fire" insane as terrorist who thought of using plane as a bomb. The development of the story left me something missing but can't quite pin point what..however, I have enjoyed the book and learned a few things too. This is one of a few books that I actually listened besides commuting time.

I have listened to all of Demille's books, and listen to many more narrations by Scott Brick just because I like his narration. I also enjoy the Cory character. However this book went on a little long without enough substance. I love the sarcastic wit but it became a little weak. Kate was a very weak caracter. I am using a very high standard to judge this book because I have come to expect the best from DeMille. With that said this was an enjoyable book. I am glad I listened, and I was looking forward to another John Cory story. This story just took a little luster off the John Cory legacy.

Good--Not his best

I really like the Nelson DeMille/Scott Brick combination. I like this book though Up Country is still my favourite

This one didn't dissappoint, except that John Corey is getting too full of himself to be believable. He takes the "man's man" theme to the extreme.

Fun Book, Great Escape

Nelson DeMille, Scott Brick and John Corey at their best! Hey, if you're a fan, you're a fan. If not, as Corey would say "F--- You!". Great book! After "The Lion's Game" I'm a DeMille/Corey addict, and Scott Brick brings it all to life so well. Scott Brick reading Nelson DeMille is the best!

Terrific!

I couldn't stop listening, this story is amazing. I love John and Kate together and John Corey makes me laugh. Scott Brick has become one of my favorite narrators, I can't wait to listen to more.

Nail biting suspense

Plot great, but too slow/chatty as to Corey waxing philosophic too often to remain humerous.

Not his best work, but finally picked up pace

The subject line will make sense once you listen to this one. As always, Nelson DeMille injects the story with believable detective work, some great humor, and a little, uh, romantic interludes. I'd recommend this book to ANYONE.

What did you like best about Wild Fire? What did you like least?

Perhaps somewhere in the middle. I think I need a break from this series. I find the slow pace a little aggravating. Also the character of Kate needs to be developed a bit more. She has an interesting backstory which needs to be explored more fully.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Combining some of the events in order to streamline. Too much time is spent with no action. This is somewhat different than the previous John Corey books which were non stop action.

Which character – as performed by Scott Brick – was your favorite?

The villain. Mr. Brick captured the sociopath we all love to hate. We could see his logic in what he planned but at the same time see the evil.

Do you think Wild Fire needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

The story has some minor characters which could use some follow up. These are powerful men in government. I would like to read how they carry on prior to and after this event.

Okay story with a bit too much filler.

I couldn't buy into the decisions Corey and even more Mayfield were making in the story. I felt there was too high a need to suspend my disbelief to really enjoy the book.
