All she wanted was her mother's love and acceptance. What she got was her worst nightmare.
The murder of Mara's father and grandmother thrusts her into her mother's life of secrets, lies, and crushing emotional abuse. Alone and starving for love, she has no one to turn to, except her pet sugar gliders.
Then, she meets Travis Raines. He's everything her father warned her about, and everything she needs to protect her shattered soul. With him, she discovers her strength - and the vengeful, deadly secrets of the past.
Now, Mara's done being the victim.
The story caught my attention from the beginning and so hard toput it down. The author does a great job of writing a character that you come to hate so much, and a character that your heart just breaks for. This story has some nice twists and turns and an unexpected ending.

So this was my first time hearing anything about the author Christine Cooper. I was pleasantly surprised! I love when a story keeps me on my toes and Cooer did just that! I felt like I flew through the book. I wish I had a bit more background on the characters. Mara is on the edge and I really wanted more about what it took to get her there. Now, I did have to relisten to the beginning a second time, I was a bit confused with the time line and the going back and forth.
Michelle Marie was a fabulous narrator. Very clear and understandable. Marie added just enough emotion into her voice for the audio to be enjoyable. There isn’t much worse than a monotone narrator!
I really enjoyed this psychological thriller. It kept me on the edge of my seat and had me guessing until the end. There were twists I didn't see coming. The narration was perfect. This is my first book by this author and I'm looking forward to more!
