To commit the perfect murder, you need the perfect cover.

On a cold icy morning, a mother wakes to find her daughter’s blood-soaked body frozen to the road. Who would carry out such a horrific killing on the victim’s doorstep?

Straight off her last harrowing case, Detective Erika Foster is feeling fragile but determined to lead the investigation. As she sets to work, she finds reports of assaults in the same quiet South London suburb where the woman was killed. One chilling detail links them to the murder victim - they were all attacked by a figure in black wearing a gas mask.

Erika is on the hunt for a killer with a terrifying calling card. The case gets more complicated when she uncovers a tangled web of secrets surrounding the death of the beautiful young woman.

Yet just as Erika begins to piece the clues together, she is forced to confront painful memories of her past. Erika must dig deep, stay focused and find the killer. Only this time, one of her own is in terrible danger....

Fascinating murder mystery; great detective work!

Robert Bryndza is among the best living authors of the modern detective/police procedural genre. Deadly Secrets, Book 6 in his Detective Erika Foster series, is as close to perfection as any novel I have read. Erika Foster is among my favorite protagonists. Jan Cramer's narration is outstanding. I highly recommend Deadly Secrets and the other novels in the Erika Foster series.

hopefully real coppers are not this disfunctional,

if real coppers were this stupid, dumb, thick, slow and disfunctional then how would any crime really be solved?? - still it was a good book to listen to, another crime investigation about to start perhaps??

Bryndza Does It Again

One thing you can say about the Erika Foster series is it'd always interesting. No same old, same old ,here. Once again the plot, characters and narration are great. SPOILER ALERT. . ........ Coments made about life under the Nazis are worth thinking about."You don't know what it was like. You don't know what you would do" I hope my morals would have come through but if my children were threatened I wonder.Being a psychology major I've read a lot in my amateurish study of why people do what they do. Very glad not to have faced what some have.

Absolutely perfect

The Erika Foster books are about my favourite of all crime series and the latest book is one of the best. Ericka is a fascinating character who I have grown to really care about and the other characters, both goodies and baddies, are real and convincing. The plot develops quickly and moves in a range of different directions before coming together in an unexpected and very satisfying conclusion.

Jan Cramer is one of my favourite narrators, she really inhabits all the characters.

Can’t wait for the next one.

Unexpected ending

Up to the standard of the rest of this series. I must say I was getting a bit fed up with dour Erika, always disobeying orders, behaving appallingly and getting away with it. Nice to hear a bit more about her and her colleagues. Clever plot, and an unexpected ending. Jan Cramer is an excellent narrator

Painful narration

I found the general story ok but the narration was poor. It was as if she had done little to no preparation and simply picked up the book and read it for the first time. Every character sounded aggressive, especially the male police officers and she failed to accurately express the emotions behind each character and the context of what they were saying. The overall result was very flat and very quickly read....disapointing as I think it could have been so much better if not for this. Just my opinion but there it is.
