Publisher's summary

When Bethany is saddled with an unwanted, unrefined, and decidedly common guardian, she must polish him up before he’s fit for good society. As for Willoughby Winter, all that stands between him and his inheritance is to marry Bethany off. Can he succeed in his efforts before his past becomes known, or will she manage to distract him from his goal - by hook or by crook?

Highly implausible story

I love listening to Helen Taylor read. That is definitely the highlight of this book. The 12 year old girl talks like an adult; the characters, backgrounds bear No resemblance to things that would actually have happened; and the backstory of how this whole guardian situation came to be is not explained. Good looking people with mysterious large amounts of money who behave in inexplicable ways is really only worth listening to if you like the sound of Helen Taylor’s voice – which, fortunately I do, but that’s about it for this book!
