Publisher's summary

Former policeman Frank Malloy is frustrated when a woman requests his private detective services to implicate her wealthy husband in adultery, the only legal grounds for divorce in New York state. Although Mrs. Bing seems genuinely distressed about her marriage and desperate to end it, she refuses to tell Frank the reason she absolutely must divorce her husband and admits she has no legal grounds. Frank explains he won't manufacture evidence for her and sends her on her way.

The following week, Frank and Sarah happen to be attending the first ever auto show in Madison Square Garden when they meet the woman's husband, Alfred Bing, who has invested in a company that produces one of the electric motorcars on display. A few days later, the newspapers report that millionaire Alvin Bing has been found dead, pinned beneath one of the wheels of his very own motorcar. But who was driving it? The obvious suspect is Mrs. Bing, but Frank and Sarah find that nothing is as it seems in their puzzling, dangerous search for truth.

A day to set aside

I love the Gaslight series from the get-go, I am a speed reader. I can finish a whole book in about an hour give or take but when it comes to the Gaslight; I take a minute and slow down and take my time but always seem to finish it sooner than I want because I can’t put it down.

I love the setting, the characters and how absorbing the story can be. I absolutely give a thumbs up and five plus plus stars for this story.

(P.S. my reviews are never a summary of a story but how the story affected me).

I liked it very much!

I will say the book was slightly predictable in that I knew where it was going. I was surprised how it ended even after I figured out some of the elements involving the investigation even before the characters did. Still it is a really good book!

Still The Best Historical Cozy Around

The well-researched data in the Gaslight Mystery Series has educated me as much as all the players have entertained me! The whodunnit aspect is always well done, and of course the narration is top notch. Thank you, thank you, thank you for such an enjoyable series! Highly recommend, especially to those attracted to the Victorian Era—you will not regret this choice.

Where's rhe mystery?

I can't believe it took so long for a group of "detectives" - two of them experienced detectives - to figure out what was going on. Their continuing puzzlement became a real irritant as the book wore on. It's a sad commentary when rhe most interesting part of a novel is about a subtopic- in this case, electric cars.
