Publisher's Summary

Jessica Fletcher is invited to ring in the New Year with British aristocracy. Too bad someone's about to end the life of the party....

Jessica Fletcher and her friend Scotland Yard detective inspector George Sutherland are invited to attend a New Year's Eve Ball at Castorbrook Castle, thanks to her British publisher. Shortly after arriving in the idyllic English countryside, Jessica discovers the body of a lady's maid in the garden.

While their host, Lord Norrance, his snobbish third wife, other members of the household, and party guests squabble over the tragic death in tight-lipped, perfectly mannered, thoroughly British style, family relations are strained as old wounds are reopened and cutting remarks are freely handed out. And that's only during teatime!

As midnight beckons at the ball the next night, the earl offers a toast, complete with fireworks. But the merriment crashes to a halt when he falls ill and dies, apparently poisoned - and the number of suspects with a grudge against the lord of the manor sprouts like English ivy.

Now it's up to Jessica and George to find the killer - or killers - before another corpse welcomes in the New Year....

Audible release earlier Murder She Wrote Books in Series by Donald Bain

Re:Audible release earlier Murder She Wrote Books in Series by Donald Bain

Please consider releasing the earlier series of Murder She Wrote books written by Donald Bain. They are so much more in Jessica Fletcher Character than the current, and sad, Jon Land versions. Who does one email to request these earlier editions ? Thank you for the Donald Bain books that have been placed on Audible.com, he is THE best author who captures and conveys the truely virtuous, intelligent and gracious Jessica Fletcher of the Murder She Wrote TV series, as portrayed by Dame Angela Lansbury

Death of a blue blood

I really enjoyed this book. When watching Murder She Wrote on tv I prefer the setting to be Cabot Cove. But when listening to it I enjoy traveling with Jessica to various parts of the world. The narrator doesn't sound like Jessica Fletcher to me but she's good at doing the other voices.

SANDRA BURR IS JESSICA FLETCHER

I love all of these books and the performance is excellent. The details that the author gives the reader has interesting facts and his phrasing has the voice of JF. I miss him. I think with these audible books though the narrator can make or break the enjoyment and Sandra Burr definitely makes this book.

Narrator Let Story Down

I wasn't crazy about the narrator - when she attempted accents they were pretty bad. The London taxi driver sounded like he was from NE United States to me. Fortunately she mostly dropped attempting accents as the book progressed, so it became easier to listen to. Still, she didn't add anything to the book and I'll try to avoid her in the future. (FWIW I've listened to 2 other narrators for this series, and while neither was amazing I thought they were both better than this one.)

As for the story - it was pretty good, with a fun British setting and interesting cast of characters. The mystery had plenty of red herrings and possible suspects. Overall this is a good book for fans of English Country House mysteries. And it's always fun to see George Sutherland and Jessica together, though I got a little tired of the number of times she pointed out hwy they weren't together.

So all in all not one of the best in the series, especially in audio form, but still worth reading for fans.

What's not to love?!

Donald Bain's Murder She Wrote novels are always reliably good cozy mysteries and this one is no exception. Sandra Burr does an excellent job on the narration. I really enjoyed this one but I generally like all in this series
