Publisher's summary

How do you stop the unstoppable?

A supernatural entity that has been imprisoned in the Earth for millennia is released in a small town. It quickly spreads, leaving a trail of blood and carnage in its wake. Harlan is the local sheriff, and he is in a race against time to save the woman he loves, his town, and the rest of the world from this horrifying evil.

More than Evil is a relentless story with a different kind of monster. It manages to feel both fresh and familiar at the same time. If you like high-octane action and nearly unkillable creatures, then you've come to the right place.

This audiobook features a 3D soundscape filled with music and effects. Richardson is a film and TV producer and uses his years of experience to make this audiobook feel like a movie for your ears. Horror is the perfect genre for this kind of rich sound design but rarely gets it. The atmosphere created by this treatment takes an already great story and elevates it to a whole new level.

"Fast moving.... Wholly original.... Features a setting and atmosphere and that might have been plucked from the horror greats of the 70s and 80s." (Publishers Weekly/Booklife)

"I was hooked. Miraculous story." (Amy Shannon, Bookshelf Reviews)

"Bil Richardson has a style that cuts to the chase, with ever increasing pace and a labyrinth of surprises. Highly recommended." (Reader's Favorite)

"Richardson has a flair.... Definitely going to keep this author on my radar." (Manhattan Book Review)

movie in your ears

“More Than Evil”, Bil Richardson

An evil in a small mining town is awakened after getting the taste of blood. It is up to the sheriff to save the town.

“More Than Evil” was a gory, well paced story with a diverse cast of characters. The book starts out with a high octane action scene and maintains the bloody ride throughout.

“More Than Evil” is an extremely unique audiobook. What makes it so unique? The audiobook was theatrical. Richardson was a tv producer who used his experience to create an audiobook that is a movie in your ears. The music and effects really take this audiobook to a whole new level. Every scene becomes vivid. For example, the listener can hear creaks, footsteps and leafs rustling. There was a scene where a character closed the door and you could hear the car door close and footsteps on gravel as the narrator was talking. It really brought the story to life.

I highly recommend this audiobook to any horror reader. It was such a fun experience.

Thank you Bil Richardson for sending me a physical copy.

When it comes to audiobooks, do you have preference for a certain type of narrator voice? Male, female, accent?

Well-written horror story

More than Evil was written by Bil Richardson and narrated by Sky Soleil. This story is as advertised, relentless and high-octane. Starting out with a betrayed man's lust for revenge and ending with explosions and sacrifice. The writing does feel like a blockbuster of a movie.

Not only is this tale well written, this audiobook also includes music and Foley work throughout. While this provides a unique experience for the listener it can be a bit distracting at times. Most audiobooks provide a relaxing environment no matter the genre. Just a listener and the spoken word provide the same feeling like reading. I found while focusing on the plot that the music jarred me out of the flow of the story multiple times.

Editing, quality, and production were outstanding compared to most books I have listened to. Even though I do not like music, Foley work in audiobooks. The quality of both was excellent.

The narrator Sky Soleil did a great job and was a perfect match for this tale. His voice acting was consistent throughout. Being able to jump from characters and maintain their emotions and voices.

A good horror story to listen to late at night

Harlan is a small town sheriff in Appalachia. He and his best friend are on poor terms after Harlan starts a relationship with his best friend Andy's wife. One day in the mines of the small town, Andy is seething in his anger over the situation. A mining accident occurs and unleashes an inhuman evil upon the town. Now Harlan has to figure out what is happening and how to save his town, his friends, and his family from being torn apart by ravenous undead creatures with an insatiable bloodlust.

There are many elements of this audiobook similar to other horror stories but this doesn't entirely detract from the story. It should be noted to any squeamish readers/listeners there is a lot of blood and gore here so if that is not your thing stay away. If you have a stomach for some blood and guts though this is a fun listen.

I thought the sound effects would potentially detract from the story but I did find these to be well done and overall added to the story with only a few moments where having the sound effects were a bit of a distraction.

If you like shows like The Walking Dead, movies like Night of the Living Dead or books like World War Z you'll have a good time listening to this. While it's not perfect there are plenty of decent scares, twists and inventive turns here to keep you awake at night as you listen.

A movie for my ear holes!! WOW!

I listen to a lot of audiobooks, I mean, A LOT!!
But never, have I ever, experienced an audiobook quite like this one!
It was INTENSE and Theatrical, with Non-stop action!
I get annoyed when some books get listed as Horror and there’s nothing horrifying about them. That is not the case with More Than Evil. Oh, no, no, no! This book was creepy as heck with blood and gore GALORE!! My heart felt like it was about to beat out of my chest and flop right out on the floor. THAT is the kind of Horror I love!!
This one is so much fun. From beginning to end. I want more audiobooks like this one.
