Publisher's summary

From a New York Times bestselling author and former Los Angeles Times reporter, two teens kill their friend, then befriend the girl's family to avoid suspicion.

On a beautiful October day in the San Fernando Valley, teenager Missy Avila was lured into the woods, beaten, tortured, and drowned. Missy's best friend, Karen Severson, publicly vowed to find the killer and even moved in with Missy's family to help. Three years later, a surprise witness exposed the murderers as Missy's two best friends—one of whom was Karen.

New York Times bestselling author Karen Kingsbury delivers a story full of twists, turns, betrayals, and confessions. Missy's Murder is a shocking tale of one of the most notorious murder trials of the eighties, and a startling debut novel from Kingsbury, who now has over twenty-five million books in print.

Hard to believe

Interesting that the girls could keep secrets so long and so well. Enjoyed the drama that was created.

Mean Girls 101

This is a great book made you feel like you were in the picture with all the characters. Another great read by Karen Kingsbury.

Excellent

This book came to my attention as I received an email from Amazon where it was presented as a Kindle edition. So I jumped right into Audible to see if I could buy a copy I could listen to while doing housework.

Well, I bought the book, and just couldn’t put it down it was far to gripping to stop listening.

The book is well written with dramatizations to make it more authentic for the reader/listener. I guess that was one of the reasons I got so captured by this book as it almost felt like being there. Even the courtroom section was good. No dry spots to find here.

A must read for all true crime aficionados

Masterly told narrative

This story was riveting. I don’t remember hearing about the murder, but I was living on the East Coast. I am impressed with the depth of research and attention to detail provided by Kingsbury. This is not her typical genre, but the story needs to be told.

Unthinkable story

Admittedly after starting this book, I had to check if there was more than one Karen Kingsbury because this book is unlike any of her other books I’ve listened to. Despite being so different, it was a very good book and I can’t imagine if this had been my daughter. The main reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because I missed the faith element that so many of her other books include, which always inspires me.

Gripping and sad

Always love Karen Kingsbury’s book! This one was a little different with not as much faith based but still excellent

It read like a news report

It was more like a documentary …. Not what I expect from Karen Kingsbury…. I probably would not have used a credit if I had known!
