Another powerful story in the Logan Family Saga and companion to Mildred D. Taylor's Newbery Award-winning Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry.

A day of conflict and tragedy.

Jeremy Simms watches from the porch of the general store as the weekly bus from Jackson comes through his town. His neighbor Stacey Logan and Stacey's brothers and sister are there to see their grandmother off on a trip. Jeremy's friend Josias Williams is taking the bus to his new job. But Josias and the Logans are black, and in Mississippi in the 1930s, black people can't ride the bus if that means there won't be enough room for white people to ride. When several white passengers arrive at the last minute, the driver sends Josias and Stacey's grandmother off the bus. Then comes a terrifying moment that unites all the townspeople in a nightmare that will change their lives forever.

So well written. Only an hour, but very engaging. Character development is excellent and the interactions are foundational to understanding race divide in the US.

Great short story!

I love the interactivity and reading skills this woman has.
However, Cajun folktales talk WAAAAAAAAAAAY too much about voodoo and the devil, so NOT for Christians.

GREAT voice skills but NOT for Christians!!!!!!!!!

Overall a great book that keeps me invested. The Logan family saga is by far one of the best series’s I’ve ever read and I recommend it to anyone who wants to hear more about a interesting story of the ages. The narration is also perfect for the characters and time.

Amazing

This story makes you hold your breath, hoping against hope that it comes out all right.

A sad story beautifully told

Mildred D. Taylor is a genius of storytelling. Although these books are made for young adult readers, her storytelling is mature enough for those beyond their youth. Her books should be mandatory reading for everyone like they were when I was younger, but we know what is happening in our current environment that prevents stories like these from being told, but I will certainly make sure that my own children are exposed to this, so that history is not lost even in fiction.

Short story, but so will told!
