Reseñas de la Crítica

"An enlightening, moving novel." (Publishers Weekly)

"Mildred D. Taylor's novels about the Logan family have been hugely popular for two good reasons: They bring alive a fragment of the history of black life in the Deep South...[and] paint an appealingly detailed picture of the warm family relations and the embracing communal spirit to remind us that black life, day to day, however troubled, is not the disaster it looks like when it is simplified by sociology. There is pleasure, dignity, and palpable pride in Great Faith, near Strawberry, Miss., where the Logans are landowners with a fierce attachment to their own soil." (The New York Times)

"Powerful, readable, and fast-moving." (VOYA)

Listening to a favorite

This is my absolutely favorite book and I love the ability to listen to it as I cleaned. It's funny because I've read this a billion times but I forgot the little details of the journey.

Reading this book, or listening to it in my case, takes you to another time. I know what it was like during Jim Crow times but to really have this book where I put myself in Cassie's position is something totally different. I have to remind myself anytime Cassie spoke out it was big... a black woman standing up for herself and others to white people was asking for trouble. I was reminded how brave Mo was even if it wasn't smart lol I understand it.

Jeremy... if you've never read any books in the series you get a good gist of his background with the Logan family. You know this caucasian boy has been friends with these African American kids for years against his whole family's wishes and now in this book he's forced to finally pick a side. It's such a sad journey this man was on to reach his decision and I'm honestly kinda sad we don't see in the long run what happens with his decision.

On top of Jim Crowness this book begins before Pearl Harbor and ends the next couple days of the attack. It's crazy that sooo much was going on at the same time and it makes you feel like the Grandma said in the book how nerve-wracking to be forced to send your African american boys to fight only for them to come back and not get nothing out of it.

Overall I love the book now as much as I did I'm fifth grade when I first read it and I'm glad that I listened to it as a adult who really understand full picture what they were going through it makes me appreciate all my black ancestors before me that much more. This may not be a true story but the feelings and the racism was and remains very much so real.

Very good saga.

Only thing we don’t know what happen to Moe and Jeramie Sims and did Cassie get married to Solomon or Moe.
