We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Publisher's summary
The extraordinary new audiobook in the #1 New York Times - best-selling series from the grand master of adventure.
In October 1943, a U.S. destroyer sailed out of Philadelphia and supposedly vanished, the result of a Navy experiment with electromagnetic radiation. The story was considered a hoax - but now Juan Cabrillo and his Oregon colleagues aren't so sure. There is talk of a new weapon soon to be auctioned, something very dangerous to America's interests, and the rumors link it to the great inventor Nikola Tesla, who was working with the Navy when he died in 1943. Was he responsible for the experiment? Are his notes in the hands of enemies? As Cabrillo races to find the truth, he discovers there is even more at stake than he could have imagined - but by the time he realizes it, he may already be too late.

Hey, where did my ship go???
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Only if they are a pre-existing fan of the Cussler series, otherwise, take a pass.
What does Scott Brick bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Scott owns this series, and although I am abit " SB'd " out at this point, he does his usual great work here bringing the characters, and the action, to audio life.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No.A few chuckles from time to time.
Any additional comments?
As previously noted, the Cussler/Oregon adventures continue to roll on. They all require some level of suspension of disbelief, but on balance are raucous, easy to listen to action books with just enought science and truth behind them that it keeps the engagement level up.
Recommended for fans of the author, or the genre.

This Book Is Really Good
Where does Mirage rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This book is non stop excitement. I love all the Oregon books and this one is the best or second the best. Can't wait for the next one to come out!!!! Get it, you won't be disappointed.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Juan was non stop maxed out throughout the entire book. He went from one adventure to the next.
Have you listened to any of Scott Brick’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Scotts best read.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
You'll be on the edge of your seat throughout the movie.

Great read, continuity as usual, was lacking.
Where does Mirage rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
GREAT read, I loved it.I do have a issue with ONE thing, that has been an issue with all of cussler's books. Continuity, Maurice, has become "MORRIS". Same guy, same attitude, different name, and slightly different voice, and there were other issues of lack of continuity. WHY does Cussler insist on botching continuity so badly in so many of his "Series". But, the book was never the less excellent, and at the top of the Oregon files books. The only Cussler series I read any more. I would highly recommend it to anyone, even if they've never heard of Cussler or the Oregon Files. A VERY tiny basis in fact, surrounded by a great non stop action Yarn.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Mirage?
Finding "Dullah's yacht upside down, but floating to a degree, and The crew of the yacht (most of them) and Linda Ross safe in a water tight bilge.
What does Scott Brick bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Scott Brick MAKES the story. Were it not for him, I would NOT have purchased the book.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
NO

True to the Formula
If you're someone who enjoys the Cussler-brand formula, you'll love this book. The protagonists suffer an endless series of attacks throughout the entire book, escaping death only within the last few seconds each time. Zillions of people die. Much crashing, exploding, and especially shooting. I bought the book because I'm interested in some of the technology mentioned in the blurb, but very little was put forth, and all of that was improbable. The situations that could have/should have been fascinating, were overshadowed by the bangbang-shootemup.
The narrator was a good fit for the formula.
I'm giving this a 3 instead of a 1 or 2, even though I didn't much like it, because I think it does a good job of delivering what's expected from this type of book.

A Rousing tale
This is book number 9 in the Oregon series. In this story we start out in Siberia with Cabrillo attempting to rescue a Russian Admiral Yuri Borodin from prison. Yuri is a friend of Cabrillo. Our protagonist Juan Cabrillo is handicapped with only one leg. But his leg prosthetics comes loaded with an array of weapons. His ship the Oregon is made to look like a derelict freighter but is really a high tech ship loaded with lots of fancy and exciting weapons, copters, boats and other secret toys.
One of my favorite scientists is discussed in this story, Nikola Tesla. Apparently Tesla has invented an optical cloaking device and it was being tested on Westinghouse’s yacht. The book is non- stop action adventure. It is slam bang action on sea and land with lots of secret weapons. As with all Cussler books there is some history and it this book some science tossed into the story. I usually find the history part of the story most interesting.
Cussler’s books make a good escape read that holds the attention from page to page. Scott Brick does his usual great job narrating the book.

Cussler rules
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, if that friend liked rather extreme thrillers.
What did you like best about this story?
Personally, the only series of books that I really love is the Oregon and NUMA. The others just don't appeal to me. Maybe because I love the ocean.
Have you listened to any of Scott Brick’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Many. Mr. Brick is by far the best reader I have ever listened to, and I have listened to many. I don't know how he manages to perform so well in so many audiobooks, but if I am unsure of whether I want a title his name as performer of the story often causes me to make a choice in favor of buying it.

Another Wicked Awesome Oregon File Novel
Any additional comments?
I think I'd read just about anything Clive Cussler & Jack Du Brul write together ... we aren't talking great literature - we are talking great entertainment! ... Scott Brick is such a great reader - I so enjoy listening to a story read by him ... listening to Scott Brick read a Clive Cussler novel is like going to a totally absorbing movie - you just don't want it to end ... CC & JDB have written another great adventure filled story!

Same 'ol story, but still a fun listen
Adventures galore, yes. Action galore, yes. The coolest undercover battleship in the world, yes. Regurgitated descriptions of each team member found in every other book repeated verbatim, yes. Juan and members of his 'elite' team of ex-special forces are faced with insurmountable odds, and overcome them all just in the nick of time, yes. Predictable and elementary writing, yes. Same 'ol story, slightly different theme, yet still an entertaining listen. (Especially if you're in the mood to put your brain on autopilot.)

Excellent
One o of my favourite Oregon adventures. Great storyline and plot twists. I love how relevant the tech and storylines educate along three way too.
I'm visually impaired so narration is important too. I love going to bed with Scott Brick who is probably the best narrator around and as the voice of Clive Cussler is perfect to listen too day or night and brings the story to life.
