Carol S. Dweck
“Through clever research studies and engaging writing, Dweck illuminates how our beliefs about our capabilities exert tremendous influence on how we learn and which paths we take in life.”—Bill Gates, GatesNotes
“It’s not always the people who start out the smartest who end up the smartest.”
After decades of research, world-renowned Stanford University psychologist Carol S. Dweck, Ph.D., discovered a simple but groundbreaking idea: the power of mindset. In this brilliant book, she shows how success in school, work, sports, the arts, and almost every area of human endeavor can be dramatically influenced by how we think about our talents and abilities. People with a fixed mindset—those who believe that abilities are fixed—are less likely to flourish than those with a growth mindset—those who believe that abilities can be developed. Mindset reveals how great parents, teachers, managers, and athletes can put this idea to use to foster outstanding accomplishment.
In this edition, Dweck offers new insights into her now famous and broadly embraced concept. She introduces a phenomenon she calls false growth mindset and guides people toward adopting a deeper, truer growth mindset. She also expands the mindset concept beyond the individual, applying it to the cultures of groups and organizations. With the right mindset, you can motivate those you lead, teach, and love—to transform their lives and your own.

It turns out that I have been applying the growth mindset with work and overcoming my challenges which is why year over year I have continued to grow and refine myself.
What I learned though was that I have not been applying the same principles to my personal and romantic relationships. My fixed mindset has continued to limit me from obtaining the meaningful relationships that I want because of my own self defeating thinking. I’m looking forward to transitioning my approach working through my challenges.
Thank you for opening my eyes and giving me this new insight and hope Carol!

This is one of my all time favorites, I liked so much that I purchase 5 or more copies and distributed to my family and friends. Why?
Because the concept here is FUNDAMENTAL it should be taught in our basic schools! The understanding of fixed vs. growth mindset is instrumental for you to achieve success in your life and persevere in the path of your goals and dreams.
Although, a few find the book repetitive as the concept it sounds fairly simple, I found the anedoctes in different perspectives (business, sports, relationships, parenting, teaching) very useful to fixate the concept and in my humble opinion the stories are compelling and enjoyable (maybe because I knew most of the sports and business personalities mentioned and used to exemplify the mindset in the book).
Also, when I listen to this audiobook during my walking exercise on my vacation back in November, I felt that I was doing an ""self-therapy", lot of thoughts came to my mind related to my youth, school time, my parents, my sister, my brother, my nephew and of course my relationship with my spouse.
So it was deep to me, it touched me and I figured that it was not only to me because a family member told me that he/she even cried (!!) when reading the book.
Unfortunately, a few family members haven't read yet, maybe because they sense it will touch them as well, as it is really therapeutic. And who already did therapy knows that is good, but a lot of times is hard and...hurts. Hurts, but heals, so be brave and enjoy the journey!
