Publisher's Summary
Cailin MacDougal has lived a dangerous life being the adopted daughter of vampire Broderick "Rick" MacDougal, so she had no choice but to learn to fight in order to protect herself. However, such behavior is hardly desirable in a dutiful wife who's supposed to embroider and run a household. This aggressive side of her behavior should be easy enough to hide from her betrothed...shouldn't it?
After being away at fencing school for seven years, James Knightly has returned as a master swordsman, ready to captain his own ship and finally wed his childhood sweetheart, Cailin MacDougal. What he finds waiting for him is a dagger-toting hellion for a bride, an immortal father-in-law, and an enemy bent on extracting revenge by threatening the family James holds most dear - the MacDougals.
Broderick MacDougal is lured away from his family with the promise of finally learning a way to protect those he loves from his clan enemy, Angus Campbell. Broderick knows he's headed for a trap, but the bait is too tempting to resist...and he unravels the beginning of a prophecy that will lead to redemption for all vampires. The cost of such redemption, though, may be the very soul of the woman he would die for...his wife, Davina.

Redux: Still good!
I read this book and enjoyed it thoroughly so I was very happy to try the audiobook when it became available. I have never been a fan of audiobooks, but I loved this one. I found myself hearing things in the story that I missed when I read it. David Monteath, the narrator, does a magnificent job with the voices and accents.
Even if you have read the book previously and especially if you have not, I recommend you add this to your Wish List. Thoroughly enjoyable!

YaaaOK this Audiobook IS AMAZING
Any additional comments?
I wish I could do as many accents as David Monteath. It would certainly make talking to myself more interesting.🤔
Gaaawd friends, these books are so good -- so thorough -- they're practically standalones. Not that I recommend reading them out of order, but hey, I've been known to do that a time or two. Besides, who needs to read when you have the man of many accents crooning in your ear? David could voice over every actor in "Outlander" for cryin' out loud. #JamieOhJamie!
You all know that David is my favorite Scottish narrator, and Midnight Captive is a magnificent showcase of all of David's talents. His voice is a production. He's all the parts of a choir working simultaneously and harmoniously to engulf your mind in this beautiful story Arial Burnz has created.
Broderick's deep voice. James' baritone. Angus and his rat-like subordinates?... YaaaOK are there any vocal inflections this man can't do? (No.)
Let's not even talk about David's ability to make me cry. I'm talking level 5 hurricane here. How does it make you feel knowing you made a girl CRY, David?! No man should have this kind of power. The perfect lilts and his inhuman ability to narrate 112 different voices is the engine behind this steam boat chug-a-lugging all over my heart.
Just... staaahp.

Great story
I really enjoyed listening to this story and will be getting the next one in the series. To know a love so strong and a little bit of back stabbing to why the lies of the two different orders and what is this great secret that they aren't really telling ????? Please listen to this entire series if you get a chance.

Just Keeps Getting Better!
Would you consider the audio edition of Midnight Captive to be better than the print version?
I personally like listening to audiobooks especially when the narrator is excellent at reading the story which David Monteath is! He has a smooth sexy voice and gives the characters depth and detail! I hear the emotions the characters are feeling and he is awesome with accents.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Midnight Captive?
I personally love when James explains to Cailin that he loves her just the way she is knife wielding and feisty as opposed to being someone she is not just to portray the good wife he should have.
What about David Monteath’s performance did you like?
I LOVED everything about David Monteath's performance! His voice is perfect for narrating books. His voice is extremely sexy and he is talented when it comes to the different accents and conveying the emotions the characters are feeling.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I can't just pick one moment in the book that moved me. I loved how James and Cailin had a special bond from when they were young and promised to each other that remained when they met again when Cailin grew up.
Any additional comments?
Ms. Burnz outdid herself with the telling of this story. I actually enjoyed it better then the first book and I can not wait to listen to Midnight Hunt!

Better than the first
I received a free copy of this Audible book from the author in exchange for my honest review.
I enjoyed Midnight Captive far more than I did Midnight Conquest. Unlike Broderick and Davina's romance, there are never anything but good intentions on the part of James toward Cailin. James and Cailin have known each other since she was a child. They have been promised to one another since he was 17 and she 9. (I really liked that they weren't to be betrothed until Cailin was old enough to make the decision for herself.) Years later, James is now back from his sword schooling in Germany to find Cailin all grown up and more skilled with a dagger than many men and with no skills in managing a household whatsoever. Much to James' surprise, he also finds that the father of his promised is of a paranormal nature with a vindictive, powerful paranormal enemy and it is now James' duty to protect Cailin. To James' credit, this (nor Cailin's skills in sword play and lack of household skills) does not deter him in the least. He still wants nothing more than to marry the feisty Cailin. I really enjoyed the relationship between James and Cailin. It is obvious they were very close when they were younger and have always held a great affection for each other. I enjoyed seeing their old habits and games peek out so many years later. I think having this long history between James and Cailin made the book that much better. All of those nuances enriched the relationship and drew me into the story. The book has a HEA ending with no cliffhanger. I am looking forward to reading book 3 in the Bonded by Blood Vampire Chronicles series!

No Insta Love, The Romance had a Chance to Grow..
Any additional comments?
If you haven't read or listened to the first book, I suggest doing so before reading the second
book.
Several years have passed for Davina, Brodrick and their daughter Cailin.
Cailin is now engaged to James Knightly who has been away for seven years becoming a
master swordsman.
During the time spent apart, Cailin decides to learn how to defend and protect herself, making her a strong kick azz female lead.
Throw in a determined Villain, a few steamy intimate scenes and the author has an entertaining sequel.
I was delighted listening to the couple's story unfold, especially when James realized that
Cailin was Not At All what he was expecting.
Overall, this book was really good and I patiently await the release of book three on Audible.
Once again, David Monteath did an excellent job with the narration.

Excellent Continuation
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I think this audio book is great and you would really miss out by not giving it a listen.
What did you like best about this story?
I liked the storyline continuation and the fluidity as the narrator gave us the book.
What about David Monteath’s performance did you like?
That he was believable and didn't take to much away from the story.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I don't think I could pick just one because I loved the whole thing.
Any additional comments?
The author did an outstanding job with the storyline because if that wasn't great to begin with no matter how hard the narrator would try it would just come out wrong.

Wow could not get better
What did you love best about Midnight Captive?
The way that James and Cailin love is challenged and grows.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Cailin, Who could not ask for a daughter who could protect herself but still give herself to her future husband with all that she is
What does David Monteath bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The change in his voice, to be able to her the emotion in the story and not just read it.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I had a wide range of emotions, this story has so many different elements.
Any additional comments?
This was Wow I what a great book.
I was left wanting to hear more after book 1 and now at the end of book 2 I still have not gotten enough.
To hear the story behind the feud, the training provided to a child, the protective spells & a protective spell.
WOW o wow.
I have a love that you can not live without is what MacDougal has, and now his adoptive daughter Cailin has the same.
Cailin fears that her betrothed will not accept who she is and tries hard to be what she thinks a wife should be. Cailin can not control her temper so instead of dealing with the growing feelings between herself and James she runs.
Cailin is taken the night of their betrothal ceremony while Broderick is out of town. James goes after her and finds that his father was part of the plan to kidnap Cailin and her mother. James finally gets Cailin to talk to him after he rescues her from her captures. James pours his heart out to Cailin to get her to understand that it is the woman she is that he loves, not the one who tries to hide her true self for the images of what a wife should be.
Whether you read or listen to the Audiobook you can not help but be drawn into this story and want more, to find out what the next part to a prophecy is.
I was given the Audiobook in exchange for my honest review. I can not wait to either read or listen to the next book.
