Not the best work by this author

I've binged almost everything from Eve Langlais but this series doesn't live up to her usual quality.

Firstly, the heroine's stubbornness to cling to her obliviousness about everything and everyone in her life truly annoyed me. Her ex-husband treated her like shit then asked for a divorce. This sets her free to start over and I was happy for her.

However, her supposedly best friend is almost always hurtful towards her and dress it up as some for of tough love. Frankly, there is no true best friend support.

While I understand that her kids were traumatized by the way their dad treated them and their mom, they were selfish, entitled, and should never have been forgiven so easily for choosing to sacrifice their mother instead of finding another way. They were assholes and I truly hate how lose the daughter's morals were. This girl had the worst radar for men and she couldn't keep her damn legs closed long enough to find out if her next shag is going to hurt her family or not.

While the brother is slightly less annoying, I hated that he marched his mother to her death without even the decency to try and help her.

The only person in this book who truly cared for the heroine was Kane. While he played a part in her deception, he was honest about his feelings from the moment they met.

It would have been fair to forgot about everyone else and go live happy with Kane.

First 2 books...

The first 2 books were great, the 3rd started good but then it almost seemed like the author ran out of fuel and just threw out the entire ending in one chapter that didn't make much sense

I hate weak main characters

Why oh why does the main character have to be a ditz. I just wish that the entire story line was her talking herself out of what is right in front of her face.

Weak main character

Book 2 was unnecessary. If it was going to end this way, then there should have been more magic.

The book was good but…

The book was good for the most part but there were a few things I almost couldn’t get past she was way too stupid and blind to a lot of what was going on and how everyone around her was treating her the hell with that you can forgive but learn you lesson trust is rarely given twice for good reason

One of the most frustrating over 40 witch stories I’ve read

I spent books one and two yelling at the protagonist for being super stubborn yet super influenceable at the same time. The ending disappointed. I would have rather seen her throw a match behind her and walk away from everyone, pulling a Bernadine move from ‘waiting to exhale’. Too many plots came squishy endings, and I think my self empowerment may have taken a hit after spending 20+ hours with this protagonist.

Outstanding

The suspense was on point, and so was the journey. This was one of my best.

A realistic look into a woman's brain

I noticed some reviews were not fond of the main characters outlook on herself. As I listened I realized it is a very realistic view from a woman that had been abused. I am looking forward to reading the next 2 books and seeing if there is good character development. Anyone who does not like the characters self esteem issues has never experienced the kind of abuse the character did. I think the author did a good job portraying the character as she would actually feel after years of abuse if it was a real woman.

Low self esteem not enough magic

The main character is constantly being negative towards herself and a such low esteem in the 1st 2 books. I also keep waiting for something magical to happen and that also finally comes out in the last 5 chapters in the last book! I still love Nicole Poole but I didn’t enjoy this book as much as her other books she has done.
